I'm a Hair Stylist with my own salon in the UK - just me and i have an assistant who washes hair etc.
This morning my first client of the day arrived along with the next two clients - they were all friends, all early 20s, all with very long hair, all wanting pixies - WOW!
All three have just left with really short pixies, from the front I've styled them all differently, from the back all identical all very closely cropped!
I've had such fun- now to clear up all the hair

If a girl wants to keep her hair I will cut off as a ponytail prior to washing, otherwise I wash and section.
First 2 girls length was mid back (bra strap) straight , medium texture, both pretty girls. I gave them both shortish pixies with cropped napes - scissor over comb, cropped to a point at the nape - this makes the neck appear longer and slender.
Third girls hair was probably 6 inches longer, wavy, medium texture. She was very very pretty and confident so i gave her a very short pixie, with the nape cut the same as the first two. She looked amazing but a bit shocked that her hair was shorter than the other two.
Girl came in not a regular, probably 19 / 20, pretty, grown out pixie (7/8 weeks since last cut) quite a bit of length at the back. She said it needed a good chop!
Anyway started to cut her hair, and she seemed happy with me taking her quite short, came to the back and if I carried on cutting as I had done I would take about an inch off, so i cut 3 1/2 inches off scissor over comb. When I showed her her cropped nape at the end she seemed to gulp - whoops!

When a client arrives at my salon, my assistant normally washes their before they arrive at my cutting chair, it's only normally then that I find out whether they are being trimmed or cropped or whatever.
The three girls I had the other day going from long to pixie, i don't think had put much thought in to what they wanted, I think that they just egged each other on. They just basically said we all pixies, will they suit us - they are had great faces / features for pixies especially the last one.
None wanted their hair as ponytails, so I sectioned their wet hair. I start with the right side, and cut so they can't watch in the mirror. I will then release the LHS section and move the chair around and the client will be able to see the short RHS against the long LHS, this is normally when they take a sharp intake of breath! With client one I had left the hair slightly covering the ear with a longish sideburn. After cutting the LHS I cut the back, scissor over comb. I like to crop napes to a point. I never use clippers as I'm just as quick scissor over comb and took client one to the equivalent to a number 3 guard - the other two girls were very quiet by this time. I side parted her hair and graduated the fringe in to the sideburn.
Client two similar with shorter sideburns, longish fringe. Client three shorter all over, choppy, with very short fringe.

Did this girl have the same problem as my GF, a couple of inches of white neck where her hair used to be.? If so what do you normally recommend to your clients after you've scalped them!?!

Ahh! She did actually, but it's not exactly a common thing! Most girls if they are going shorter do it BEFORE they go on holiday and get a tan. This year has been a bit different, as it this time of year that a lot of girls go shorter, however this year the weather has been good and a lot of people have tans.
The three girls I gave pixies to all were quite pale, so no problem; other girls after a trim have had 1/2" of paler skin but nothing obvious. Today's girl was quite tanned and left with probably 2 1/2" of white neck!
My advice would be: DO NOT USE FAKE TAN, you will never blend it, in to hairline / behind ears, it will look a lot worse. I think your GFs skin will naturally blend as her tan subsides and her pale skin tans.
Also, another piece of advice: If you are thinking of posting your GFs haircut video without her permission - DON'T - If it was me I would dump you!!lol

So what color was the three girl's hair? For some reason, I'm picturing them all as brunettes.
