I've been looking and looking trying to figure if I'm a warm or cool complection. As best as I can figure I'm a cool... Natural dark/Medium brown hair, hazel eyes, beige skintone... Here's my question, what colors of brown would go best with a cool complection? Like I said before, I'm a natural dark brown, dyed chestnut now, but I was thinking of going to a Dark Golden brown or maybe a Medium Golden brown. Would this look right on a cool complection? I would post a picture of myself, but I'm not sure how. I like the darker colors because they make my eyes pop, but then sometimes I feel washed out by the darkness... Any thoughts would help! Thanks so much!

Hi SarahLiz, Do you look good in colors like bright yellow, and orange? Gold jewelery? If you look good in these colors, you can pull off a golden shade on your hair. If you don't really look good in yellow, and lavendar flatters you more, you are probably a cool complexion, and you would look better with ash shades. Another way to tell is take a mirror outside in the sun and look at your natural hair color. If you see yellow or gold in it, golden colors will look good on you. If what you see is more a blue reflection off of your hair, go with an ash shade.

Thanks for the reply Susan. I've come to the realization that I am apparently cool(After all these years of thinking I was warm). I understand ash looks best on cool complexions, but everywhere I've read people say that ash brown is rather mousy, or dull. Is that your opinion, and if so, is there any way to spice it up more? Thanks again!
Well, ash brown is often considered mousy and dull if it's a lighter shade of brown. Dark browns look just fine in ashy tones, and I wouldn't call those mousy. I don't know of any way to spice it up, ashy is supposed to be more muted. If you want something more dramatic, you may want to consider a darker ash brown, super dark almost black ash brown, or ash blonde.

Be aware than sometimes very dark browns come out black. You can post a question on the hair color board and see if anyone knows how to prevent it, but it seems most people just try washing with dish washing liquid to get it to fade some when it comes out too black. Just wanted you to be prepared in case that happens.

I'm a really weird combination. There is no doublt my skin color is Cool, but my eyes and hair are not. I have hazel eyes (mostly green) and dark golden blond hair.
