I had long beautiful hair before my friend talked me into bleaching it. She knows nothing about hair coloring but at the time she said she did. She bought volume 40 and used double the amount that she was supposed to now my hair is a bunch of colors and I had to cut about 4 inches off. When she was bleaching my hair I could hear it sizzle and my scalp was burning. My hair is frail and mushy still and when I comb it out it breaks. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wanted my hair to be a darker color with red highlights. When can I try to get that? This was all done about 1 month ago. I hate the many different colors that it is now. I know I should get to a salon but I do not have enough money to pay for that right now. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yikes!! Stacee, I hate to say it but unfortunatly you don`t sound like you have many other options at this point. If your hair is breaking, in short order your hair is going to be a complete frazzled mess. To hurry things along and get back to "healthy" hair you should just give in and get it cut either very short or in such a way that "all of the damaged hair is cut off" then you won`t be putting off the invietable fact that you "damaged" your hair, its either going to "break off" and eventually will look so bad you will have to cut it, why put yourself through the legnthy ordeal of bad hair days for so long when if you just face facts and have it cut short and begin with healthy hair and learn from the experience, anything capable of permanently altering your hair should only be applied or used by a "trained individual" and never by a friend who "claims" to know how to use the said product or tool I understand that you wanted a change but couldnt really afford to have a pro do the job so you took a chance and had a friend do it, it didn`t come out right, your hair was damaged and any coloring or other dye, bleach will only make matters worse, possibly "much" worse. Things like this can end up costing "much" more than if you had spent the money to do it right in the first place.... that is if you consider the value of possibly loosing a friend thrown into the pot. Then the cost of having a "pro" do the work seems small.
It sounds as though you don`t want to cut your hair short but you just might be pleasntly suprised and end up really liking having your hair short, I speak from experience here, My gf from a few years back made a similar mistake as you, she allowed a "friend" (me) to color her hair. I used to think I liked Blondes, so after much badgering on my part she gave in to my requests. Since we didn`t have much money we decided to do it at home..... coloring nearly waist long hair from dark brown to blonde wont really happen all that well in the first place, and thats with the best products the pros use. We were in the grocery store asile section, hoping to achieve the desired result. Uh huh, right. Her hair was brilliant ORANGE. I mean really gaudy horrible looking halloween orange. She was devastated I was bummed and wanting to remedy the situation in the worst way.... in the end it was a complete diasaster, many attempts at correcting her hair made matters go from bad to extreme, the end result was she ended up letting me cut her hair short like a boys ( I love short hair on girls, but by no means planned this) she was so upset about the entire event she finally just said what the heck it cant be any worse than what I already know is going to happen so you might as well cut my hair short like you always wanted me to do since its going to have to be all chopped off to fix it so you might as well get some fun out of my misfortune.... I had never cut anyones hair before that but knew the basics behind layers and how they are made and such so with shaking hands I started cutting my gf`s hair short. I was so nervous both of us laughed ourselfs silly afterwards. From that statement you might guess it came out with a good ending, yes it did. She was totally in love with her short hair ( I cut it all to about 3 finger widths on the top and 2 on the sides, it looked great and she was so suprised by what she saw in the mirror, after having long hair all her life and at 30 suddenly having it cut off in the span of a weekend is rather sudden but she was open minded and made the best of it. She kept her hair short from that day on, even today (were no longer together :-( ) but she still has this sexy short hairstyle I wish more women would adopt! Ask her if she would consider growing her hair long? No way she will tell you, I should have done this a long time ago instead of trying to hold on to something that made life harder than nessesary. There`s alot of morals here, I know I`m just some guy on the web rattling on about something you probably don`t believe ever happened but yes it did, I have pictures from it as a reminder of what we did that weekend. I am still amazed at the outcome of this tale, but its proof of how you just never know till after you try something for yourself. I doubt I helped you much, since most of what I told you is probably just what you don`t want to hear but maybe someone else will read it and gain something from it I hope. Write me if you want to say something or possible even chat or just tell me I`m nuts LOL :) I know I`m nuts, too many hours in the sun did that I think :) Try to think positive and don`t blame your friend, even though she holds atleast some of the blame. Just keep an open mind and smile. In the end you`ll feel better and still have a friend. Aloha, Shawn
