I am 27 years old, female, and going bald. I have been to all sorts of doctors and have had my thyroid tested along with other hormonal tests. These have all been normal. I have never been pregnant and do not take any medications or drugs. I have no health problems other than my hair loss. I started losing my hair about three years ago. It has now progressed to the point where I am becoming frankly bald on the crown and recently, it has started to thin and recede at the temples...baldness does run in my family..my father is bald and my brother who is three years younger than me, started losing his hair when he was 17 years old and is now totally bald on top of his head. My doctor tells me that because of my heredity and lack of any other medical problems, I have "male pattern baldness". Even though this is rare in females she said it can occur and that there is no cure for it. My hairloss is progressing rapidly and my doctor thinks that over time, I may lose all the hair on top of my head. Are there any other young women who read this forum that have this problem? Has anyone ever heard of this before or am I the only one..Please respond..I am very self conscious and alone with this problem.

> I can sympathize with your problem. I am 35 and began losing my hair last February. I am thinning all over my head. It is devastating. What do you do to conceal your balding? I have been checking into hair extensions. This is supposed to work for thinning hair. How about wigs? I have seen alot of good stylish wigs on websites. I would be most interested to know how you deal with this day to day. I have lost almost all self esteem. I work with a lady who is close to 50 and has the nicest hair. She constantly complains that she hates her hair. It is naturally very curly. This is so depressing to hear. All I want is to either get a wig or get my hair to grow back. I can not continue on struggling with this hair loss. I am currently taking evening primrose oil, green tea and saw palmetto capsules and flax meal. If you are interested in the dosages I take from researching this topic, e-mail me and I will let you know. I hope I will hear from you. Women going through this do need support. It is like it is almost acceptable for men to go bald, but unacceptable for women. What makes things worse for me is that my boyfriend is two years older than me and had beautiful hair. I almost feel like I should break up with him before he realizes he may have a bald girlfriend some day.Take care

> Take careAccording to the doctor who I received my second opinion from, he told me that women don't just go bald. I was going bald for about four years. I had alot of scalp showing but now I almost have a whole head of hair. I am now taking vitamins and the doctor gave me medication to put on my scalp once a day. Don't give up and keep going to doctors until one really listens to you. Good luck!

Hi Richelle. You mentioned that you are taking vitamins and using a medication that your doctor gave you. What types of vitamins do you take and what is the name of the medication that you use on your scalp? Thanks!

I agree that it is devastating and more unacceptable for a female to loose their hair. I have been loosing my hair for about 5 years and just recently it has been more difficult to cover the bald areas on my scalp. I really want to stop thinkning about it and do something about it. At this point I would consider wearing a wig or anything to help my self esteem. I am very self conscious and just want to feel better about myself. I find myself looking around everywhere I go for other women with thin hair wishing I had enough nerve to talk to them for support. It really is painful. My husband is supportive and has never made me feel unattractive, but I struggle with my children feeling embarrassed of me. They have never said that they were, but as they get older I know they will be. I am embarrassed to go swimming and to do other outside activities because of feeling ashamed of my scalp showing. I know it is pride, but I can't help the way I feel. I am open to advice and suggestions and support from other women facing the same problem. If you would like to email me please do.

I read your story and thought it was me talking. We are both going through the same thing. I have been struggling from when I was in High school up til now. I am now 41 yrs. of age and always had problems with thin thin hair. Now it is showing scalp on the crown and on both sides. I could always hide it with what ever hair that I had. I used alot of bobby pins to hold my hair in place so others wouldn`t know I had bald spots. I even hid from my family. I am married and have children who are also growing up and I know they are embarass but don`t show it. It wasn`t until April 14, of this year that I had no choice but to tell my husband and children. I cried not because of my hair loss but because of the tremendous support and love I had from them. You couldn`t imagine the load off my chest. I could no longer hide with pins because my hair were breaking from the many pins that I had used. I could not do it anymore and had to tell what I was going through. It is very tiring and frustrated to live like this for years. I pray I can have a healthy hair again. I am looking into purchasing Toppik, If you go to the web site for Toppik it does look real helpful and hopeful.
I am home on sickleave and will see the doctors tomorrow. I have had thyroid problems for 13 yrs. and I am on medication. I will find out tomorrow at my Drs. Appointment. Has anyone with thin hair tried Toppik before? Does it Work? I am in desperate need of help!!! I need to return to work. Thank god for people like you out there who understands what we are going through in this world. Good luck to all of us and May the good lord above provide us with all his good blessings!!!

I have the same problem but I don`t let it be a problem because I know that is the trick of the devil, you got to hold your head up high and go on and live God maded us in his image and he knows all about us and he can do anything but fail, so give him your problem and have faith that he will answer your prayer. I know how you feel but I believe God and I`m standing on his holy word
His word is what strenghten my faith and I know he will bring me out. May God Bless You and I will keep you in my prays.

ladies, i am in the same boat. diffuse thinning for about three years. i use to have very very thick hair now i have about 1/3 of the hair i use to have... although i have not found the answer yet i want to share some options and ideas you might look into...(i do a lot of net research trying to come up with something) ------- look into Natural Progestrone cream it seems like many women have a hormonal imbalance that the cream helps, also look into hair supplements that contain amino acids, i recently ordered Hair Formula 37, (i don`t know if it works yet but the info seemed promising) or Head Start Vitamins and Protein (this is the next thing i`m gonna try if HF37 doesn`t work), Saw Palmetto is also worth a shot.
I`m not saying I have the answer, but I just want to give you all a few suggestions of some things to try...Good Luck and God Bless.

-p.s. if the Hair Formula 37 or anything else (for that matter) works I will let you guys know.
hang in there...something`s gotta work!!!

Hi, just to let you know you are not alone. I am also a female sufferging from Male Pattern Baldness and it sucks! My mother had suffered from it in her early to mid twenties and she lost all her crown and most of her hair on the side when she was in her thirties. I grew up embarrassed but also defensive of my mother. I hated when people look, laughed and stared at her. I started to los my hair when I was in high school/college. When I first met my husband, I was able to disguise that loss until I was 25. It became more noticable. I was embarassed when the windy blew, or got my hair wet, etc. I went to a derm who suggested that I start rogaine but he told me none of his patients ever grew any hair back and I`d have to stop it should I get pregnant. I didn`t want to yo-yo back and forth with my body so I never started. I went to get a thyroid test and the docteor couldn`t find anything. So my current options are taking vitamins and taking natural alternatives. I found that Vitamin zB-complex helped slow down the hairloss for me. But I`ve been lazy and haven`t been taking my vitamins. right now my hair has thinned out tremedmously in the crown and it`s noticeably thinner all over. So I`m afraid that I`d have to try more aggressive methods at a later time. I`m trying to get pregnant and I dno`t want to expose myself to too much chemicals.
There are alot of women with our problem. We just need to support each other. Take care and keep posting.
that is a hair DON'T

i to understand how you feel i am seeing a dermatologist by the name of dr. davis. She is a very good person and cares about how i feel. She offered to try a over the counter prescription called aldactone. it is a blood thinner and it has show results in growing your hair back. i dont want to say that it has helped to grow it back but i think that it has slowed the process. this may or may not work for you but it is an alternative. good luck

Tina :

try taking cupier-10 supplements for a while. They are really really potent stuff. It is visibly working in my hair , and my wife`s hair as well.
Not even too expensive.
I will try to write the link information, then you go to the part that says HAIR and then RESEARCH, ok?

Hello, I am 57 years old and have been losing hair for about 3 years now. I have had my thyroid, and hormones checked. All are normal. I have been diagnosed with androgenic hair loss. I understand it is the same as men, but called female patterned hair loss. I have been using Avacor for 2 months now. I do believe the loss has slowed a bit and am starting to get little hairs along the front hairline. We`ll see. I do have an appointment in Oct. with a Dr. at Duke University in N.C. Please keep in touch....

Do you have to get the birth control from your doctor? I have no medical insurance right now. Please email me with info.
