Getting new haircut this week...NEED ADVICE!

Hi all,
Going to the stylist this week to get a new hairstyle. I am going to get the messy/spike look. My hair is pretty thick though. Anyway, here are some questions: Should I tell the stylist to cut my hair with a razor? I heard that was a good idea. Also, I don`t think this stylist carries BED HEAD products. If I tell him to use a wax to create my look, what will I do if he doesn`t have a wax to do it with? Any advice on what to tell the stylist, etc would be greatly appreciated!
