growing shaggy hair

i am gorwing my hair shaggy. i have pics on the mens forum just a little lower on the threads. but i want to know if it is good for my head shape. and my hair is naturally wavy. i want that surfer shaggy look. my hair is about to the bottom of my eyes when i pull it tought. and my hair flips out sometimes allot. almost verticle. like it will curve then flip out. and if i starighten it jus a lil it becomes normal. (wavy with out flipping. and starighten on lowest temp) but sometimes it will be normal. hw do i stop the flipping. my hair is medium in thic ness. thanks
