The Phantasm is angry. First, the media creates how guys should look, the picture of an ideal guy is one with short hair. These rules suck, as they don't focus on the creativity one person can be, but what products(and image) they buy. Girls. To be fashionable you must follow the trends. The trends are a product of capitalist society. I am a metaller with a feminine haircut to my chin. I don't care what anyone says I refuse to change for them, as I am not their golden fleece. When it comes to hair, do what you want not what the media tells you.
Hair, make-up and body art is an expression. Wear what you like and getting angry about society is a waste of your energy. Teens have felt the same every generation. Do your thing and get on with life. Just rember this passion you have now, so when your kids are teens you will understand and can be a better parent for it!
Society is always going to have the superficial tendancy to isolate those who see the world as it really is. Unlike you, I am not angry with society. I make my own statement about its shallowness with wierd stupid bright colors and the occasional all-out head spiking (although not everyone realizes that I am making a statement, it is sometimes mistaken as a desperate cry for attention). Having read the numerous titles on this teen thread alone (i.e. "HELP I NEED COOL HAIR!!"), it's good to see there are some that differentiate from the masses.
