junJen,
Well, i'm not really a qualified hairdresser, although i have been in this situation numerous amount of times.
When dying over black a lighter colour, you need to strip it. You can do this by using a strong peroxide and getting rid of all black particles.
Although you should consult with your hairdresser.

A long time ago (11 months) i dyed my hair black.... well now my roots are back and ive tried several times to dye it a medium brown (original colour.) and the top has dyed but the bottom is still really dark. Ive failed even when i concentrated on the bottom with the dye, so i dont know what to do.... should i go profesionally? or is there a DIY hairdye that will cure this? please i need help since school is near. thank you
