Red Hair is so sexy, I like red hair before it became popluar, the blonde highlights would be good , also look at Keri Russells First hair cut, some thing like that would take care of both of your problems the curly hair and looking to young. Also curls rock leave them and enhance them. Or you could consider going very short like 1/2 inch on top and tapered shorter in back and the sides. Or you could just leave it be and don`t worry about how you look so much, when your 40 you will like being young looking.

Okay, cutting is not out of the question, but coloring is. My mother would kill me if I colored my hair. I am a red head and she loves the color. Cutting, although, I do not care about as long as it is not too short, like past my ears all over. That would be pushing the limit. Anything else though I am all game for.

I can understand about the coloring thing. However, what is super hot now is blonde highlights on top of red colors. It really opens up the face and adds age and sophistication. So how about having well placed ribbons of blonde layered right around your face to bring in some light and also offer a more sophisticated look.

Since your hair is naturally curly is you cut it too short you are going to have potential issues with it bulking out. I would recommend that you leave the length but play with the front of your hair. Think about Katie Holmes. She used to have bangs and a messier less defined look. To age her a little and give her sophistication she is now wearing no bangs with a side part and her hair in 70s style ringlet curls.

In my opinion if you go shorter you will probably need to straighten your hair and if you are going off to college the last thing you need is a heavy committment of time to maintaining a style.

You can get a different look by either changing your part, adding or subtracting bangs, adding some highlights around your face and going with more defined curls. To get more definiton ala Jennifer Lopez you can use a finger diffuser as you blow dry to get better curl definition and then use a curling iron to quickly set the ringlets. Yes it will take some time, but if you spray the style you should be able to keep it for more than one day.

Another thing that will add years is to wear part of your hair "up" off your face. You can do a half up/half down by pulling hair from either side of your face up around your crown and then letting your curls flow naturally.

I also think that makeup will help add some age. Jessica Alba was recently seen with a middle part and curls on either side. She jazzed her look with a few highlights on either side of the part and then cranked up her eye makeup. She looked stunning and definitely a lot older than her actual age.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes in College.

WOW. Karen thanks for the post that was so helpful. I have been lurking and saw this post and I have to say that it really helps me with my own hair problems. Thank you so much for posting all the info. I went and looked at photos of Jessica Alba on the Web and it really helped me with ideas.

Is cutting it out of the question? Would you be willing to cut or color it? What are your limitations?

Hey everyone!! I need help bad. This fall I will start college and I am in desperate need of a makeover, hair wise. I look really young for my age; I am constantly told that my younger sister looks older than I do. I need a hairstyle that will make me appear my actual age. I am getting ready to turn 18 and I just want to look that way. To make things even worse I am also very small body wise. I am hoping that a good haircut can help me out a little. I am tired of looking like I am only 13. Can someone help me please?
Oh, BTW, My hair is naturally curly, but I do straighten it. It is to my shoulders now and thick.
Thanks in advance
