woe is florida

I am traveling up to buffalo sometime in the next month or so and I am going to bring all my curlers!!! In Buffalo I can curl my hair into spiral boing boings or into s/z shaped waves and my hair will stay like that all day long and even for the next few days afterward the curl will hold although with less definition. Hooray!!

Woe is Florida. Land of everlasting humidity. Dragging my tresses down and immediately killing my curl. I used to feel blessed that my hair was straight so that I could go curly when i wanted and it would hold and last but I could also have straight hair...i do think its easier to curl straight hair than it is to straighten that which is curly. But now with Floridas thick droplet laden swamp air (in spite of the fact that my beloved wetlands are being drained and filled) my curls fall out within the first day. Waves last longer but are also dragged down. I had thought my hair was just too long to hold curls anymore but no, its the humidity.

Woe is Florida.

Actualy its work and play. Im going to work up in Buffalo for a while but I will be staying with my parents for those weeks =) Im just going to take advantage of my curling ability while im there =)

The temperature has been nice hasn't it? I commiserate with my fellow floridians on not being able to curl without difficulty. The best thing that works for me, is wearing rag-rollers to bed with my hair damp. That stays for at least half-a day :)

The only thing that works against humidity is full cover-up.
I stuff my hair in a hat before I go outside, and only take it off when I get inside, where the AC's going.
This works well in Tennessee summers.

The braid method works but it still doenst old as long in florida as it could. Untill i move I might be doomed =) Especialy since I like to go for 45 min long walks every day.

A hat...hmmm, I could try that...

The first year I lived here, my hair got frizzy. An unexpected phenomenon because my hair is straight. I came to realize that I was overly-cleaning my hair when I washed it. Took all of the natural oils out of it, so something had to take its place -- the humidity. Now, when I wash, I get it clean but not "squeaky" clean. It helps tame the frizz.

In addition to avoiding overly-cleaning my hair, there are two other things I do to reduce frizz:

1) rinse the conditioner out with cold water (no hot)
2) final rinse of 1/4 gallon of distilled or purified water with 2 tablespoons of vinegar added to it.

Both of these things help to get/keep the hair shafts smooth. Even though the humidity has jumped in the past few days, my hair is smooth and frizz-free! I'm lovin it.
