My hair is straight naturally but takes to curling really well.

When i want it curly i just wash it like a few hours (say about 5) before i want it curly.

Then whilst its wet i add a curling lotion
(you can buy in them in like boots or superdrug)

After that i plait it into two plaits
(more plaits makes it frizzer less makes it more simple waves.)

If I have time i have two french plaits cause they give a more overall curl but if not just make sure you do your two plaits quite near to the root.

Leave it in for five or so hours and then before taking it out spray plaits with hairspray.

Take plaits out and DO NOT BRUSH. Spray on some more hairspray and give ur hair a ruffle and ur finished.

Hope it helped

For body and a slight wave you could try putting big rollers in. Or if you want smaller defined waves you can wrap sections of damp slightly gelled hair around your index finger and leave them to dry. I know you said you didn`t want to use curlers, but they can have a really nice effect if you loosen the curls, they become really nice waves. And then there is the perm option... you don`t have to get a really curly perm, you can just get a body wave which is really nice and natural looking, but still, it`s permanent. hope that helped!
