hi, does anyone know of a brand/color dye that goes over dark auburn/brown that will result in a very very dark red (NOT AUBURN, NO ORANGE-Y!) that is intense but not bright? it`s hard to explain, sorry.

Have you tried burgundy colors or dark auburn? I found that those work really well.

Is there any chance you could find a picture to show us exactly what sort of colour you mean? It`d also be useful to have one to show the stylist if you decide to go professional. :) Good luck!

Its important that you use deposit only color...no ammonia and low vol.developer...Shinier...You can do it more often and in most cases no grow out line of demarcation....The best place to have this done is in the Salon

But if your going to do it yourself, look at clairols natural instincts color. I don`t know if they have a dark red like your looking for but its worth a look...if you go too dark it starts to look purple.:):)
