Back in high school, I used to have a short pixie cut. It got greasy in a matter of hours, so that I had to wash every morning. This past year, I had to be on campus for my U classes at 7 am... so couldn't wash it daily anymore. I realized that long hair saved time.

Now I wash maybe twice a week. My hair is mid-back, thick, coarse. and I can bun it and forget about it for a few hours if I'm busy. You can still try new things with new updos, different styles of french braiding, or a new part, etc.. I think you should grow it out past your shoulders, since you're growing your bangs out anyway. For healthy growing, be sure to avoid blowdryers, curling irons, flat irons, other heat. Basically, I'm all for long hair because you can do more stuff with it.

But... if you want a "cute new haircut" for the new school year, I don't blame you. Short cuts do look very cute and very chic. Many celebrities such as Mandy Moore have really nice short cuts. You might also want to consider face shape. The biggest thing is lifestyle-- depends on whether you want to invest your time (and haircut money) to maintain it.

Have you ever had short hair? If so, how did you like it?

Good luck with your decision

Depends on your hair type.. thick, thin, wavy, curly, straight.. I assume it's straight because you mentioned side-swept bangs. Do you get a lot of volume? is coarseness a problem for you? Please tell us also if you'd like a high/low maintenance do.
