Alot of things damage hair. Like brushing your hair when its still wet, blow drying it, using hot styling tools, dying it different colors, perming it. Not going for trimms, chlorine water. See what i mean, alot of things can harm your hair. oh yeah and washing your hair everyday can do that too!
Patience, NightSlasher... a sense of patience will help you as your hair grows out... besides, most people are probably out enjoying what remains of their Sunday. (I admit I don't visit here as often as I' like). It's not realistic to expect answers within hours. It's not like there are staffers standing by 24x7 to answer any & all questions.
I'll try to answer your question. It's my understanding that sodium laureth sulfate is a relatively gentle detergent. If you don't use sulfates, you're relegated to using soap-based shampoos, such as Aubrey Organics or Dr. Bronner's (they are both reputed to be quite good).
Fatty alcohols are sometimes found in conditioners and are generally considered to be okay for your hair (not damaging). You may want to do some research on fatty alcohols, and try to look for them on labels of products you're thinking of buying.
