I think you mean "sideswept bangs". It looks best on straight hair, but you mentioned that the straight look doesn't suit you. It would require cutting your bangs to slightly past chin length, perhaps mid-neck. Then you'd part your hair to one side and tuck the ends behind your ear. You could try it and see, but if your hair is really wavy then I wouldn't recommend it.
With that hair length, there's plenty you could do to spice it up. Exotic braiding, new updo/half updo ideas, etc... There are plenty of hairstyles you can try with mid-back hair. Mine is mid-back myself, but it's layered (so I can't do a proper classic English; and my updos fall out). Start with Hairboutique for hairstyles, then you can move on to a Google search for other hair ideas. Medieval braiding is fun to try too, and works on your hair length.
My hair is long (mid-back) and medium brown. It's lightly curly/wavy. I have a round face. When I straighten it it looks really crappy unless i pull it back in a half ponytail. I don't have any layers, and it's just sort of dull. I don't want bangs, but I was wondering about those things that go across your face that are longer than bangs. What are those called? Do you think they'd look good on my type of hair?
