Should I kill myself now...

Sup, straight to things:

I'm a guy.

I have tons of hair on the top which falls down the sides a bit...

I look like I'd modeled my hair after a boiling pan with that stuff.

I have very short hair on the sides.

It looked awesome while the hair on the top was short. I would come up with some nice things for it, etc.

I wanna grow my hair out.

Should I cut a bit off the top to make the thing more even or will the top hair eventually fall under its own weight and will that looks stupid?

I would definitely even it out... Not only will it grow out a little more freely and evenly, but it will look better NOW (having gotten it nicely cut), and you be sitting around miserable waiting for it to look better someday when It grows out :)
