Hey, I was wondering if anyone here could help me with something. I straighten my hair, because my hair is mostly straight, except for the occasional wave... it looks horrible if I let it air dry. Oh, I also have layers(my hair is to my shoulders), so that makes it worse. Anyways, I've been noticing lately that my thick, thick hair has thinned out A LOT. Meaning, it's now almost thin. Is this because of straightening? If it is, does anyone know if there's a less-damaging way to straighten your hair(maybe better than my flat iron, because I can never get it pin straight)? Please help!

Hi Emmalee,

I've posted a very lengthy description on wet combing and split end damage; it's in the Straight Talk board.

My post could help explain your thinning as well. Excessive splitting, especially from daily blow drying and flat ironing, will thin your hair in the long run. Dry and brittle hairs can tend to break off close to the scalp.
Another possibility is hormones. I assume you are a teen... hormones can go wacko for short periods of time. This can cause more fallout, but only temporarily.

If you have any more questions about gentle haircare I am more than willing to help you out.

Hugs,
