QuoteReplyTopic: Help With Braids?! Posted: January 12 2000 at 1:27am
My wife wants to try having tons of little braids all over her head, like Brandy. My problem is that I have no idea of how to do that! The few times I've tried, you can see most of her scalp and they're sticking out in every direction. Also, I can't braid all the way down the strands, so I'm left with about 2 inches sticking out of the bottom--ussually straight out because of the rubber bands! I'm way out of my depth here, does anyone know where I can get some good basic information about braiding?
Steve, if you travel to southern California your wife can make a day trip to the Rosarito Beach Hotel on the coast south of Tijuana, where ladies on the beach will braid her hair in rows. My daughter (my wife's hair is too thin for good braids) had her hair braided there in many (about 2 dozen) parallel thin French braids and she looked great! The braiding lady must have used a hook or a clip of some kind to pull each of her braided pigtails through a bead before fastening it. The bottom of each pigtail went through the bead and then was folded upward (in a U pattern) and was fastened with a rubber band. Bring a supply of small fabric-coated bands instead, or use string, since naked rubber bands damage hair. My daughter trimmed about 2" off her hair after she took her braids out.The lady in this picture but she has what your wife wants: http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/2639/braids.jpg. Exposed scalp is inevitable so you should put a strong anti-sunburn cream on your wife's skin between her braids, unless you're sure she won't be outside much. This site shows how to French braid, which is the basic style you need to learn if you don't know already:Related Link:French braiding
