I have about nose length hair... and I wanted to know how to turn my normal hair into dredlocks. I've heard many different ways about doing this... one of those is by just not washing your hair for awhile and letting it just get nasty so you can clump it all together in dreds, however, that method doesn't sound too appealing. I've also heard of some salons using honey? or beeswax? to make the hair stick together... That doesn't sound too bad but then again, i don't want my hair to smell like honey or any other bee products! That and once I were to get the dreds would I not be able to wash my hair regularly? If ANYONE can help me, it would be MUCH appreciated! I'm not real familiar with any of the processes so any advice on which way would be best to get this done would be helpful, or any tips on the care of dreds would also be helpful. Thanks
Hi,I have to tell you that I know almost nothing about dredlocks and I will be the first to admit it. However, I can recommend some great books that will tell you everything you could ever want to know about them.Plaited Glory by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner covers locks, twists and gives detailed instructions. This woman really knows her stuff. Also, African Hairstyles by Esi Sagay is excellent and covers a lot of the questions you have asked. If you go to our Bookstore there is also the Milady's Black Cosmetology book that is great.I wish I could tell you more, but hopefully this is a start for you.Best wishes,Karen Shelton> I have about nose length hair... and I wanted> to know how to turn my normal hair into dredlocks.> I've heard many different ways about doing this...> one of those is by just not washing your hair> for awhile and letting it just get nasty so you> can clump it all together in dreds, however, that> method doesn't sound too appealing.
