Hi, I have soft,a little better than thin, half inch below the chin wavy hair but my hair is not at all strong. When I wash my hair which is everyday and am trying to detangle it at least 1-4 hair come out in each section . With inspiration from all of you I am trying to grow my hair but this is exaspertaing that I see hair on my fingers everytime I try and remove the tangles. I would be grateful if you gave me some tips on strengthening my hair and help the growing process. Are there any recipes I can use. Thanks so much in advance Dee
Hi Dee!You know, with hair your type and length, you really shouldn't have much detangling to do. Are you brushing or combing before you wash? If your shampoo and conditioner are doing their job, you should be able to just run a comb or brush (no wet brushing of course) right through your hair with very little problems. Also, everybody loses some hair every day, that's normal. Since I switched to a jojoba based shampoo and conditioner my tangles have been reduced to almost none. Quite a feat for knee length hair so maybe you should try a new brand? Or some deep conditioning. I know Karen runs a comb through her super long hair after washing and she demands no tangles so there are several brands of products that should be giving you that kind of performance.Good luck!Best wishes to everyone!Dawn

Hello Dawn,Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I have an oily scalp so I cant even condition it except the ends which I dont do very often. I alternate between NG's Herbal Shampoo & Shampure. I dont know what else I could do to strengthen hair. Thanks once again Dee

Even though your hair is oily, it should help to strengthen your hair and should not make your scalp oilier. Jojoba is known to regulate the sebum on your scalp. If you are dry, it moisturizes. If you are oily, it limits excess sebum build-up.I can understand your concern about losing hair, but you are not losing that much. I have read that you can lose as many as 100 hairs per day. I think it really depends on the history of your hair. You generally know what is too much for you after a period of time. Remember brushes and wet hair do not mix.I would strongly urge you to condition your hair. Your hair seems to need it greatly and just because your scalp is oily, that doesn't mean that you cannot condition. A friend of mine has very oily hair. She uses a variety of commercial conditioners, but she uses an herbal rinse thereafter. You can also use apple cider vinegar. It dispels build-up and gives your hair shine. Also, I would recommend that you go to the store and buy a big bottle or jar of honey. Honey adds moisture to your hair and skin without grease. Use it as a natural conditioner. You can also use it as a pre-shampoo conditioning treatment. Put a shower cap or saran wrap over the honey for some heavenly results.I hope that you are not using a blowdryer. Give that up for a while if you are.Bye for now.. Jade
Dee--If you feel your hair loss is excessive, you first need to determine whether it's breaking off or falling out. Look closely at several loose hairs. Are they full-length with a tiny white bulb on one end? If so, you're shedding them from the roots. It's time to examine your diet, medical history, etc. There are appropriate sections on this site to research this further. Remember that you naturally lose more hair at certain times of the year.If the loose hair is shorter and broken (you can tell if there's no visible root or if one end is stretched thin and kinked like a sheared ribbon), the cause is rough handling and/or damage. Chemical processes, blow drying, heat styling appliances, rough detangling, overbrushing, and tight or restrictive hairstyles can all contribute to this. It's easy to forget how very delicate hair is--especially fine hair. When my hair was bleached and regular blown dry, my palms and shoulders would get covered with fallen hair every time I styled it. I'd always have hair in the shower drain. Now that I leave my hair alone and treat it gently, I can run my hands through my hair again and again and come up with nothing.Good luck!Ally
