Dear Pamela:No, I am not a professional hairstylist, but I am in the process of doing some extensive research on black hair. Since we're the only people on this earth with type 4 hair (kinky), very little research has been conduucted. There is however some literature to help you. Look up a book called [Andre Talks Hair]. It was a written by Oprah Winfrey's hairstylist. This man KNOWS what he is talking about. He is very consistent, and many of the facts stated in his book are parallel with my research. I don't know where you are from, but look for this book at your local bookstore, but don't make the mistake I made. I started reading it and couldn't put it down. Or you can order it online. Feel free to email me for any help. Thank you.

I just had braids put in and I'm concerned about 2 things, dryness and cleanliness. For my husband's sake, I would like to wash my hair at least once a week (it starts to smell "stale" after a week, not a real turn-on). I'd like to use a shampoo that will really strip all the built up guck off the braids and my scalp. Any suggestions? Secondly, anyone have a tip about what conditions and/or oils I should use to combat drybess. I should mention that my natural hair is very dry and chemically treated. Thanks!
