Either one> is OK.I also have wavy hair and made the same mistake a while back....the layers have grown out....but if you want to help make it flatter.....what I did and still do is I use a straightening iron to straighten it......It looks like a crimper except the plates are flat. Just be sure to use a good moisterising conditioner to keep your hair from drying out. I hope my advise helped.
