I'm not sure if this is like..the right place to ask this but it said Hair discussion..*L* Anyway, My name is Jennifer and I am 15 years old. Lately I notcied that my hair is becoming thinner and coming out and dandruff has been a big problem for me. I've tried all types of dandruff shampoos and mosturizing shampoos and nothing works. The doctors told me to wash my hair only once a week with the same shampoo but then it gets oily and somewhat stringy looking. Can anyone help me or give me some type of advice?

Hi, Jennifer. Problems with the scalp are typical with teenageres. This is because at certain ages(like the teens), the body goes through a cleansing process, so you find things like zits, and oily scalp. Another possibility to your hair loss may be seasonal. What I mean is, human bodies, like many animals, go through a type of shedding at certain times of the year; every person's "shedding" season is a little different. This may possibly not be the case with you, but it is a possiblity. A friend of mine had dandruff, and she used something called Zetar, a medicated antiseborrheic shampoo, which helped her. She got hers at Longs Drugs. It comes in a gold colored bottle (or gold label?). Tar is said to be good for the scalp, but try not to use it too much on the rest of your hair. Also, try finding a good natural moisturising conditioner, like Nature's Gate products. These could be found at any health food store. Finally, try brushing out your scalp once every day or two. This is really healthy, as it increases blood flow, which helps the scalp to self-heal. It also brushes out a lot of the dandruff. This will probably make your scalp oily, so you may want to do this right before washig your hair. Good luck, PD.

Hi, Jennifer.I went through the same thing my sophomore year in high school, and no one would believe me that I was losing too much hair! My hair loss was due to extreme stress, which I offset by going to a therapist.Other possible causes:* Crash dieting* Medication* (This is a big one.) Damage from chemical processes and/or excessive heat styling.Examine the hairs that you shed. Do they have the root (a tiny white bulb) still intact? If so, you're shedding from the scalp. If not, the hair is breaking off. See a good stylist, because you need some heavy-duty damage control.BTW, I've never heard of not washing the hair as a solution, though I could be wrong. Gentle washing and brushing doesn't make you lose any hair that you weren't about to shed anyway...Ally

Many many years ago when I was a teenager I had the same problem.I was also told to wash my hair once a week. To combat the oil, every night I would add either some talcum powder or cornstartch and brush it through the hair. I would sprinkle some on my scalp and brush it through the ends. Brushing got most of the white stuff out, but if there was still some left I would just pat my hair down with a damp wash cloth. For the dandruff I used sulfur. It's sold without a prescription usually in some type of oil base with a fragrance of course. I stil luse it on occassion, since most dandruff shampposs have a very bad effect on my hair. have seen it recently in beuaty shops, under the name medicated sulpher 8. Even with an added fragrance it doesn't smell very good, but it does work for me.By the time I got to college my hair stopped thining out. Most of it grew back. It never did back to its original fullnss, but it does look like an avergae healthy head of hair. You may want to talk to other memebers of your family. My mother and grandmother tell me they went throught the same thing when they were teenagers.

Not washing your hair is not a good idea. Many young people do go through heavy hair loss. I would recommend that you do wash your hair daily. In fact we manufacture a shampoo Nisim NewHair Biofactors www.nisim.comOUr shampoo is guaranteed to control excessive hair loss in one week. If you send me a private email I with your address I will be glad to send you a free sample so you can see for yourself. After you see the hair loss under control then you can try our Stimulating Extract to get some of the lost hair back.Tom

Hello, my name is Johannah and I'm 18. I had a bad episode of hair loss about a year ago because of a diet I was on. I had to get of the diet, start eating a lot of protien and taking vitamins to make it stop. I had to be really gentle with my hair for a long time after that to avoid pulling that hair out because the folicules were still weak. When all that happened I started researching hair and learning more about how to take care of it. I found this site and stopped using products that contained silicone because they were making my mair brittle, dry, and crunchy feeling. A year later all the hair has grown back and the vitamins and better care have made it grow to my bra strap pretty quickly. I hope that you have as good luck as I did. I hope this helps. - Johannah

> I have seen several "ad" type messages concerning Nisim products and I have to say that the product does not always work and can make hair loss worse.Teenagers do not routinely experience hair loss. If they do, like anyone else, they should seek professional medical attention as soon as possible.Jade21Not washing your hair is not a good idea. Many young> people do go through heavy hair loss.
