I suggest you do a web search for dreadlocks. There are quite a few good sites, including hairpolice.com and dreadlocks.com, which are both commercial sites that offer products that can help you with your effort. Also check out http://www.csd.uu.se/~d97hah/lockseng.html which has lots of instructions. I think the hair police site has a scheduled chat, and they offer advice by email as well.

hellllloooooo.........can anyone help me???i have been going for dreds for about 8 months now...going as in not washing my hair and rolling and playing around with it trying to get some sort of shape happening....the problem is that i am starting to get really disillusioned 'cause nothing is seeming to happen......sometimes i think that a dred is forming and then after a couple of days where it once was solidly formed at the base it starts to open up and then i have to tear it and start all over again....is there something i do'nt know about starting them and keeping them maintained???? please can someone let me know if they have any information regarding my problem....PLEASE
