Some products like Nioxin say they make hair stronger so there's less breakage which may make hair APEAR to grow more. Hair growth takes place beneath the scalp so I see no way that a shampoo or conditioner could get in there and promote growth.

I happen to have several horses, and I do not even use these on their manes and tails. I think it is supposed to make your hair really shiny and manageable.....horses (usually) have very thick (in diameter) and coarse hair..but I have not seen any great results from these type products. I use joy dishwashing liquid on them, or a "color enhancing" shampoo. I don't think it would make your hair grow any faster.
I have horses too!!! I won't profess to be an expert in trying to make longer tails on horses but by my experience with hair I will say it sound like a comical promise as horse hair is already extremely strong and it's lengh is due mostly to the type of breed (except in show cases where the tail is wrapped and meticulously cared for) I do want to tell you a couple of things you may find interesting:For Humans - There is a product called Healthy Hair Care (a horse product) that I have had wonderful results with on my clients and horses. It is a lanolin conditioner that you mix 1-8 with water and spray on. I bet Karen would really love the stuff on her long, thick, wavy hair. I hav'nt been able to access any for a couple of years now as it is not distributed in my area and you have to be a large retailer to aquire any. It sure makes horse grooming nice as brushes just glide. For Horses - Here's the formula I use for making our palomino's main and tail and socks brilliant white for parades: btl. Milk of MagnesiaCouple of heaping tablespoons of cornstarchpour in some hydrogen paroxide like maybe a cup or so, to make texture like house paintsquish into the main and tail, let soak in for maybe 5 min. then rinse well. We do this on damp hair after he has been washed. William, if you read this, wonder what this would do on people with white hair :)

Mimi:It might help, but there are so many good "human" products out there, I would try them first! I use the Artec Smoothing line (shampoo and conditioner). After the first couple of uses, I was not impressed. But, after just over a week, there was a tremendous difference. My hair is much smoother, less prone to frizz, and easier to manage...and SO SHINY! I also use a deep conditioner at least twice a month. There are so many other products for dry, brittle hair. Just FYI: Healthy Hair (the horse product) costs about $8 for for 16 oz (where I live), and as mentioned above, you dilute it 1:8 with water. I'm sure other people can recommend some good human products. What are you using now?Laura

>Hi, Laura.I'm currently using Creme of Nature shampoo for dry hair and Humectress, both of which I love, but their effects only seem to last a day or so. I tried Aveda products, but HATED them because they dry my hair out and it smells like men's cologne!Anyway. I noticed dryness about 2 months after starting to wrap my hair (wrapping is a technique of drying your hair under a bonnet hairdryer on a low setting for about 2 hours. But, you may already know that). I'm just looking for something to correct the dryness. I think I'll try your Arctec suggestion and some Vitapointe that someone in a recent posting suggested. Thanks!Mimi:> It might help, but there are so many good> "human" products out there, I would try them> first! > Has anyone ever used the horse and tail shampoo and> conditioner? Does it really make your hair grow?I used the shampoo and conditioner for two months. At that point my hair was extremely dry, but even so, I had to give up the products because they left my hair too greasy. I don't think either affected my normal hair growth pattern. In general, I would not recommend the products.bye for now...Jade21
