I have a friend who is going to chop off her long hair in the summer. She heard that sometimes salons will buy hair from the people who are cutting it. Is this true? I thought I could find out some more info here. Thanks!Regina

In the links section of this site there is a message board for buyers and sellers of hair where you may be able to get more info. I once heard that buying selling hair was illegal in this country but I could be wrong about that.

Hi Regina,It is a rare salon that will buy hair. This is because the quality of hair is often compromised by coloring or the application of other chemicals. Also, length is an issue. Many salons are equipped to resell the hair.Even Locks of Love will not take hair that has been chemically altered in any way.The best place to sell hair is through individual buyers. The HB links section does list a couple of places that buy and sell hair but it is on by individuals rather than through any type of organized business.Tell your friend to be careful and take her time and evaluate any offers. Hi Regina,There are actually 3 message boards (that I know of) for private parties to get together regarding buying and selling hair. They all seem to be legit. However, I wouldn't have your friend ship her ponytail, until after receiving and clearing the buyer's check. If you'd like to email me, I'll look up the URL'S for you.Take care,Brian
