i am thinking of adding extensions to my hair for prom, and if i like it keeping them in. i do have a few questions. first of all, my hair is curly so can extensions be curly too? i do not want to have to curl them, or straighten my real hair. also, i have hightlights in several shades of blond, so can they match that? or should i get my hair died one color? also how do you take care of them? do you need special shampoos or need to shampoo less often? ill be extending my hair from midback to almost waist length. i would really appreciate any info on this

I purchase mine from a place called His & Her Hair Goods at www.his&herhairgoods.comJust be sure you purchase good hair. I always get the 100% cuticle hair in the striaght, however I see that they also have hair that has body wave in it, and I think they also have the real curly hair. I would think that since you have many shades of blonde highlighted in your hair, it should be pretty easy to match because it would just blend in with your own.I do use a special shampoo and conditioner that my stylist reccommends made by Redken, and it has worked really well. I do not wash my hair as often as I used to, only about once every five days or so.As far as taking care of them I just do the same as regular long hair. I use only really good products, I try not to use hot irons, curlers or blow dryers real often, and I am careful to have it secured or covered when I am outside working etc., so it it not exposed to harsh winds or sun damage.Let me know how yours turn out.Take Care,Ellen

I plan on adding extensions (for the first time) but mine are from a different company.> I do not wash my hair as often as I used> to, only about once every five days or so.Whoa! Before extensions, did you have oily or dry hair? There is no way I can go five days without washing. I'm an avid runner and when I'm done with a run, my hair is anything from damp to soaked, depending on the temperature.I'll wear my own hair as bangs. If infrequent washing is recommended, I wonder if I could just shampoo the very front where the bangs are. My hair tends to be oily.> I try not to use hot irons, curlers or blow dryers real> often, and I am careful to have it secured or covered> when I am outside working etc., so it it not exposed> to harsh winds or sun damage. This is not sounding good for me. When my hair was longer, it was unusual for me not to use a blow dryer and curling iron. I always used heat protectant, but my hair has natural wave that unfortunately isn't evenly distributed. I need my dryer and iron! I'm just curious -- did the extensions change the general "personality" of your hair? For instance, on the occasion when you do you a dryer or an iron, do the extensions pretty much react like your natural hair does? Thanks!

When I am out side I generally have it up, tied back secure, or in a cap, so I can get by without washing it everyday. I just use a shower cap on the days I don't feel it needs to be washed. With you however being so active, I can understand that you would want to wash you hair everyday, and I don't think that would be a problem, as long as you always use the best products you can, and just as if it were all of your own hair it will take more time to comb it out and take care of it. I do not have any problem with styling tools, I just prefer not to use them everyday, but when I do, it reacts the same as my own hair.Ellen

If you scalp itches if you don't wash your hair mabey the shampoo & conditioner you are using is drying your scalp, or mabey you do need to wash you hair daily to keep everything in good shape, and I think that would be fine, just use excellent products for shampoo, and conditioner, and take the time to comb your hair out gently, just as you would if were all your own hair.I don't know how much you go swimming. If I go swimming I use a leave in conditioner, and put my hair back in a bun. When I get home I was my hair and condition and style as usual. As for the wind, I just feel that it has a real drying effect on any length of hair, and I think we should protect our hair whether we have extensions or not from wind blowing it all over or hot sun beating down on it.With extensions or even just you own hair, if you want it to stay healthy, and in the very best condition you must take the time and extra steps to take the best care of it that you can. just like you body.Good LuckEllen
