I am also asian with dark brown hair. I am from the middle east and I have red hilights, now I know you said you didn't want red ones but the reason why they are used so much is because they really flatter your complexion. Olive skin looks great with red hilights and you can go with bright red ones or plum coloured ones. Personally I have about three different kinds of reds in my hair to give it more texture. I have also had blond higlightes but I don't like them as much. And to your question about dying it a lighter brown it all depends on how olive and deep is your skin tone if it is close to white then it might not look bad but if it is really olive just add the hilights Hope you atleast think about what I have said and tell us what happened

hiGenerally speaking, when choosing a hair color, consider:a) your natural hair colorb) your skin tonec) your eye colorThe reason to also consider your natural color is because the further you go from it, the more damage you may do to your hair.since your hair is black, I'm assuming you have dark eyes, too. If you also have an olive complexion, I think the warm chestnut brown color you mentioned sounds like it could be really pretty for you! While you may be opposed to a regular red, something a little auburn might also be flattering. If you have a hair stylist you trust and have been visiting often, he or she should be able to give you some good suggestions and advice on the best direction to take, given your hair conditioning and natural hair/skin/eye colors. Since you are considering a pretty big change, it may also be worthwhile to go to a colorist.good luck :) silvie
