QuoteReplyTopic: Growing hair - need advice pleeeaaase! Posted: January 12 2000 at 6:21am
Hi,I'm trying to grow my hair. It is now down to my bra strap. Problems: layered. The shortest layer are my bangs, shoulder-lenght. Then I have another layer about 2-3 inches lower, then 3-4inches lower is my longest hair. I want it to be all one-length, however if I cut it to my bangs, I'm losing like 6 inches!!! Pls tell me what I should do. I want to grow my hair to my butt. If I don't cut any of it, will my layers reach the other hair? Thanks, really looking forward to your responses.Rachel
Rachel-it's always tough to grow layers out. The best thing to do is to explain to your stylist what it is you are trying to do with your hair. See him or her religiously to get the ends trimmed and to slowly even out those layers. It will take time, but the important thing is to go in for regular trims and re-shaping, so your hair will continue to look good and be healthy while the shorter layer catches up to the longer one.when i was growing out layers it took me 3 months before I really saw any difference, but I also didn't have to lose overall length. It will also help you if you take a good hair vitamin supplement (like HF37, my favorite) and generally use high quality products on your hair.:) silvie
Hi Rachael,Don't feel like the Lone Ranger! I am doing the same thing. Everyday I ask myself why I was so stupid to get my hair layered. I had nice shoulder blade length hair before I had it chopped into one of those trendy layered flippy things. What was I thinking? Thank goodness I resisted the urge to just have it all hacked off short and now my hair is about 3" above what I would call mid back and still have about 4" of layers. There is no way I could have 4" chopped off at this point. Much too traumatic to even consider! I have been having just the bottom trimmed 1/2" at a time and am making some headway. Be sure you are diligent in conditioning and are very gentle with your hair. Right now I am trying to make the most of the remaining layers. If I curl it the layers aren't so bad. I like straight hair with the ends turned under the best so I use a round hot air brush to straighten and smooth. Before I use the brush I put 2 drops of Aveda Beautifying Oil on and work it in to my hair below my ears. I think the heat and oil are a nice smoothing combination. This seems to make the layers and ends lie down nicely. I wonder just how many of us got that trendy Friends cut and are now in hair hell trying to grow out the layers. Good luck to you. You are certainly not alone in your quest for nice long all one length hair.Carolyn B
