Oh do I hear ya! If it wasn't for this group and a couple of other hair boards that I post on, I know I would have chopped off my growing out hair. Growing out layers is SO hard and takes patience. It helps so much to have a support group. There have been days when my hair looks like crap and I have been ready to walk into the nearest salon and just say cut it short and be done with it. I would have been crying my eyes out for weeks if I had given in to the urge. I am a long hair girl at heart but there have been days when I just want to give up on getting my hair nice and long again. I know I look the best and feel my best in long hair but without somebody to set me straight occasionally I know I would have whacked off my hair into one of those trendy little short haircuts. I am SO grateful for the support I get here. Growing out your hair is a commitment to yourself. I know the end result will be worth it but there are days when something goes a little haywire in my feeble brain and I need some help keeping on track. It is great to have a group of people out there in cyber space who can give the support and advice many of us need.Carolyn B

When I get in a "bad hair mood," I call my boyfriend or best friend, both of whom talk me down from the "Cut it all off!" ledge. I'm always VERY grateful the next day.In-between stages are a test!Ally

Hiya, Julia. I have some time on my hands this morning, so here's /everything/ I know about growing out your hair.1. Most people will tell you that there's no "magic pill" for hair growth, and that the best you can do is exercise, eat right, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep each night to maximize its potential. But several months ago, some of us got all worked up about Viviscal, a hair-growth supplement from Finland (?). For most people, it was a letdown. Now hopes lie with Hair Formula 37, which you will see advertised on this site. Check it out. It's not too expensive.2. The most helpful thing you can do is take /excellent/ care of your hair so that you can trim less length, less often. This means using good products, deep-conditioning regularly, and handling your hair with great care and gentleness. Heat styling is bad. Rough brushing is bad. Brushing wet hair is very bad. Consult this site for hair-care tips.3. Even though you're growing your hair out, you still need regular trims to prevent split ends from moving up the hair shaft. You also want to keep the lines of your style clean and even. Every 6 to 8 weeks, have a stylist "take the tips off" your hair. This means a microtrim of a quarter inch or so.4. Above all, be patient, and don't go running to the salon on your first bad hair day. This is why some people never attain long hair.Best of luck,Ally
Hi!I would like to know if anyone has any tips on growing out hair. I want my hair long again, being I've had the same short hair cut for some time now. Is there a way to grow it out faster? What are good trimming techniques? Thanks,Julia
