Hi Melissa,My advice for achieving a temporary look: Everyone here has suggested a good, stiff hairspray & that's your first step. Try Rave or AquaNet. My younger sister used to do this. She would dry her hair upside down and "scrunch" the heck out of it to achieve a permed look. Then, turn your head back up and use a round brush to roll back your bangs and blow dry those. Then take out the round brush and bend over again...spraying the bang area upside down. Then wait a sec. or two to let it dry. You want to achieve high bangs and a sorta permed look. That was 80s to me. If you use some stiff hair gel, it may help you scrunch your hair into a permed look. As for the makeup, it was pretty heavy. I remember purple eyeshadow being very popular. Watch the movie "Working Girl" for some ideas. Have fun! :) Kelly F.

HiI was also a kid during the '80's but I think that I can give you some advice.Firstly when it comes to big hair I think that you should consider layers. Also have you thought about a perm ???that would really help you.I'd also suggest tons of hairspray and teasing. You should also try blowdrying your hair upside downWith regards to make-up you should look up old pics of Princess Di , Whitney Houston or any 1980's celebrity.Alternatively watch reruns of Dallas, Dynasty or Santa Barbara. This would really give you an idea. There are also stax of 80's tv websites where you will be able to see some great hairdo's

Jeez... I'm really enjoying reminiscing to all these 80's hairdo messages....laffing remembering my layered and permed monstrosity in the 80's (I'm 29). You need a layered cut, spray it with Clairol Final Net ultra hold (my recommendation) BEFORE you use a medium sized curling iron on it, curl all the layers sideways, brush backward or in the direction you find you need with a vented brush (wow I sure miss my see-thru purple Goody vent brush!) to get the "feathers" and then spray the heck out of your hair while the layers are in the shape and direction you want them to be - really plaster them in place because gravity will straighten them after awhile if you don't. Personally, you couldn't pay me to ever do this to my hair again; I don't think the burnout from doing this routine every stinking morning from about '83 to '89 will ever fade. Hope it turns out well for you and the party is a blast!!!

Hi!I'm going to an "80's night" party on Saturday. I have my outfit all picked out but I need some help doing my hair. Since I'm only 17, I really don't remember what the "big hair" phase was all about.Does any one here remember this fad? Did any one HAVE "mall hair?" I have a few questions...*What kind of hairspray should one use to achieve this look?*How much of it?*How BIG was big hair? Was it all bangs, because I hear that they were really high?*How long did it take to do "big hair"*Was the hair totally sprayed stiff?I'd appreciate it if any one can help me out (there's actually a prize for the biggest hair!!) I'm sure some of you had this hairstyle, you just have to own up to it!!Thanks,Melissap.s. What makeup looks went along w/ "big hair"?
