Hi Linda...I'm fairly new here myself. I have to recommend a page from the 'International Long Hair Club' website on proper brushing techniques. Never detangle hair with a brush!! It can cause damage!ILHC: http://pwp.starnetinc.com/dtiche/brushing.htmAlso somewhere on the hairboutique there's an article on how to wash your hair in such a way as to minimize the amounts of tangles you get.Oh and from the talk board here I've recently learned that if you wake up with lots of tangles you could try braiding your hair before going to bed (after detangling). As you can see I've really been busy learning how to take care of my hair!! Most of this stuff I had no clue of at all until the last couple of weeks!! (took me 31 years to learn lol)Anyway, I am growing my hair out too. Spring of '99 I had got perm and my hair was one length at the back and long layers at the side and I had bangs. I'm growing it all out to one length, including the bangs... and I can't wait till all the perm has been cut out. The perm damage was minimal... the least damage I've ever had. Still... I don't plan on perming my hair again. I'm trying to get my hair as healthy as possible... and I bought a book on braiding hair!! Some of them are hard to do because of the difference in length between my side hair and my back hair. Ahh patience!! My back hair is now bra length and my side hair is just reaching shoulder length... with my bangs an inch below my chin.I plan on growing it out to between mid back and waist length. I also am not going to part in the middle anymore... at least not when my hair is down. And I plan on putting it up a lot, whether that be a fancy upside down tucked braid or just clipped at the nape of the neck with a barrette.I'd always wanted long hair but I listened to everyone else tell me to get a shorter hair style. I got so excited finding out all this new information about hair care and looking at long hair pictures on the net that I've decided to go ahead and do what I've always wanted to do!Hope this help from a newbie is helpful.
Here is a braiding instruction page:http://www.virtue.to/virtue/articles/braiding.htmlI agree with the advice to braid your hair at night - even if some of it comes loose during the night, the snarls won't be nearly as bad. And, please heed the advice not to detangle with your brush, you're just breaking the hair that way - use a wide tooth comb or pick.> hi..im new here and i am thrilled to have found this> board!!> i have never had long hair before, but my husband> loves long hair..my hair is now about 4 inches past my> shoulders and is very thick..it takes forever in the> morning to brush out all the snarls and rats that> appear after sleeping (and it hurts brushing them all> out!!)..any help would be greatly appreciated..> also, i want to teach my husbnad how to braid..are> there any web sites that teach u how without buying> something from them? thanks again> linda
Linda, I can relate. Enjoying my partner's long hair is pure sensual pleasure for me and I enjoy induldging in creative weaving and plaiting nightly. Along with brushing my partner's thick, wavey tresses, braiding them has become a cherished act of bedtime foreplay. Sometimes it's one thick ponytail, other times it's pigtails and on ambitious evenings when I can stretch myself enough, it has even been a dozen or so smaller braids. Initially my partner was less aroused than I by this activity. But now it's a mutually delightful engagement. There are any number of web sites out there on braiding. But I would advise you to involve your husband. If he loves your long hair, he's likely to love the feel of it as he works it thru his fingers into braids.> hi..im new here and i am thrilled to have found this> board!!> i have never had long hair before, but my husband> loves long hair..my hair is now about 4 inches past my> shoulders and is very thick..it takes forever in the> morning to brush out all the snarls and rats that> appear after sleeping (and it hurts brushing them all> out!!)..any help would be greatly appreciated..> also, i want to teach my husbnad how to braid..are> there any web sites that teach u how without buying> something from them? thanks again> linda
