QuoteReplyTopic: brunette w/an auburn tinge? Posted: October 24 2003 at 10:52am
Hi everyone I'm a brunette who wants a temporary aurburn color. The over all tone of my hair is a cool dark brown. However, my understones are red. My skin tone in general is a mix of gold, red. What color would look best on me? Last time I did this, I think the stylist gave me a color that had a little too much red in it and as a result, it looked kinda maroon for the first two weeks. Any advice would help. Thanks.

Couple of thoughts--Clairol Radiance Semi-Permanent; you can look over the shades and decide what you think might work. Can be bought at a Sallys (don't forget the developer). Don't forget a strand test first.
Redken's color deposit conditioner Injection--there is red and red violet. From what you write, the red would be too reddish for you. It does deposit well and can be used every 3rd shampoo or so. If you don't like it, it will wash out after a number of shampoos without leaving any more color.
Dark hair is the hardest to show an added tint. Others may think up some ideas as well. I think brunette with an auburn or red tint is gorgeous!

Temporary reddish dyes show up fine on my hair, but if your hair is really dark you might have a hard time getting the red to show up. My housie Lynn has that problem. Nothing would show up on her hair as well as she wanted. She said the temporary didn't show up at all, and a permanent barely showed. She went to a salon and paid a lot for a professional job, which she thought showed up a lot better, but I dunno what the stylist used. Lynn said she mixed the shade special for her.
I'd look into Natural Instincts, adding a cinnamon to your dark brown base will only give you subtle results, but you should see an auburny undertone, particularly outside in the sunlight.
Hi...I have used the PM Shines by Paul Mitchell...they are semi-demi permanent colors..that are ammonia free...they have there own processing liquid to go along w/ the color...they have a whole bunch...i used one called cinnamon stick....it works awesome..doesnt damage your hair...gives it great shine and my mom used it too and she said it worked great on grey coverage...good luck..
