QuoteReplyTopic: Soooo...What do I do now? Posted: January 16 2005 at 7:09pm
So I’ve had my extensions in for about two months, for those of you that don’t know I have bohyeme, heat fusion and I just LOVE, LOVE them. However I have had tons of shedding, I’ve lost about 75 percent of the hair over the past months. I realize now that most of the excessive shedding is due to my stylist using a fusion gun rather than a pot and she is open to different methods and experimentation. I have mentioned shrinkies to her and offered to purchase the links and the heat wand, I still have hair left over from my first install and there should be enough for another full head but now I’m wondering….and here’s my dilemma:
Do I continue with the fusion method…have new links applied along with the old ones…do I have them ALL removed and start over with the fusion method using a heat pot rather than the gun, or do I have fusion removed and try shrinkies, or…do I have them all removed and give my hair some time to “breath” and start over fresh in a few months? Pheww….to many choices and not a ton of experience…what do you all think?

well if you still have enough hair left, then all you would need is the wand and the shrinkies. Id just have the old removed and have your extensionist install the shrinkies. As long as your hair isnt damaged I see no reason to wait! I installed some as an experiment with a conair slim ceramic straightener that I purchased for $15 and it worked fine. Although Im not sure how it will do for a full head.
I guess I should have made it a bit more clear...Im not loosing my own hair...Im loosing the Bohyeme hair.
When she applied the hair she used a heat gun to apply and the bond wasnt internal, only external, so the shedding is due to the hair not being bonded to the entire width of the extension.

sorry.... I did understand I think I just worded that wrong...I meant (according to your post) that you said you still have enough bohyme left to do another full head!. Yes I did know that you meant the hair you were shedding was bohyme and not your own!
If your happy with the fusion method I would stick with that. Sounds like she needs to find a better way to tip the strands. I dont think it matters what extension method you use if the tips arent made well your going to have shedding. Ive bought pre-tipped hair and had insane shedding so now I make my own and this batch I have in now Ive had little to no shedding so far. You definetely need to make sure you get all the strands coated with glue before you roll it. A hot pot would be a good way to do that.
If youve already lost 75 percent of your extension volume then it sounds like you need to take them all out and replace them.
Im assuming the hair she used was pre-tipped? If it was alot of people here have said that if you apply some nail glue to just below the tip that helps with shedding. (If you have some pre-tips left or when you remove the ones your wearing and some are still usable)
If when you remove your extensions and there is no damage there is no reason to let your hair "breathe". Ive removed extensions one night and put them back in the very next night.
Hope this helps, there is alot of talent and helpful people on this board so Im sure you will find a solution that will work for you.

Greetings Emma, No they were not pre-tipped, she cut them off the weft and applied glue and on they went- so Im thinking they may have to be to hold together? Or we need to use a pot so that the fusing holds? I really have had a good experience with the fusion method however I am bracing myself, you never know when you have them taken off.
Sherrie...thanks so much for your help and advice...sorry for the confusion, the first time I read your post I thought I hadnt made myself clear...perhaps its the Chard speaking :)
Im still looking for more suggestions, not that I dont appreciate those already recieved. You Gals are really the greatest !!!!!!

Yes I do have another suggestion. When your stylist removes the extensions make sure its done gently. If it hurts or is pulling TELL her. Alot of damage can be done during removal if done incorrectly. It has to be done with alot of patience! Sometimes it takes applying the remover and crunching the bond several times. I tell my girls all the time "if you feel it pulling TELL me". I cant feel what they feel. Sometimes I spend a long time during removal just because I want to be VERY careful.
Liviray: What kind of glue did your extensionist use? Were the bonds originally placed kind of closer or further away from the scalp? And how big/medium/small are your bonds? Have you noticed any damage?
Sherrie, When you are removing fusion, can the hair be damaged when the bonds are crunched?
Sorry for all the questions, but I always have a lot!

Well Im not sure of the name brand of the glue she used...but it was Keritian based...the bonds were put about 1/4 inch away from the scalp and are approx 1/4 inches in length and about that in width....perhaps a little smaller. As far as damage goes...Ive had two of the bonds slip out and while looking at them I really havn't seen anything that would be overly alarming.

Liviray, IMO I dont think theres is any damage done when you crush the bond. You put acetone on first and it softens the bond. Its not brittle or hard when it crushes apart. The actually strand usually slides out pretty easy too, I think its removing the residue and the trapped hair strands that youve naturally shed that can cause the damage if not done right or carefully. I am removing mine right now. I have been at it for 3 hours with a few little breaks. I take alot of time and care when removing. I always work out the remaining residue and trapped hair with my fingers, I never use a comb. I find that more damaging also. I dont use a comb until I have all the residue and shedded hair out.
