Hi, I guess the technology in Remington is slightly different than the conventional straightening iron so that this doesn't happen to hair cuticle! How scary and sci-fi it sounds..hehe. I *think* it has special drying vents in the plates...

Vents or no vents, heat on wet hair is just plain bad for the strands. Heat is bad in general, but to heat up wet hair is just asking for 'bubble hair', which ends up splitting into very long split ends.
