QuoteReplyTopic: Cleaning Build-Up on Flat Irons Posted: June 06 2005 at 8:47pm
Does anyone have any tips on how to clean the styling product build-up that gets on the plates of flat irons? I've had to buy a few irons over the last couple of years because the build-up gets so bad the iron doesn't do its job very well and I have to replace it. The stuff is brown, from the heat, and I've tried alcohol and even steel wool to get it off, and nothing removes it very well. Any ideas? Someone told me that Sally sells a solution to take build-up off of appliances, has anyone tried that?
The best way I've found is to wipe the gunk off with a piece of tissue paper shortly after you use the iron. If you do that every time with your next iron, you won't see any build-up at all. Prevention is much more efficient than the cure.
I wouldn't recommend using steel wool on a ceramic iron - you'll likely chip the coating.
