hey guys

i got my hair braided for going on holuiday. it was originally just pased my shoulders now its down my back.

iv never had permanant extensions in i normally just do bonding for a day or 2 or clip ins. anyway...

it feels dead heavy and its itchy i know that its only to be expected. but im really scared and worried they will make my hair fall out and go bald.

i got them done in an african salon and the girls were really nice, surely they wouldnt do anyhing to me that was going to make my fall out. ..

i mean if they thought my hair was too thin they would have said i think you should get them shortter. right?

i am maybe just being paranoid. but i need some re assurance, so i can enjoy my new hair - its soooo nice- without having to be upset.

please write back

I have braided my hair lotsa times and what you said is normal.. they will loosen up once the hair grows, try running them under the shower... also you can get spray (maybe from the salon you had them done in) to put on your scalp to relieve the itchyness!

And when you do take them out dont be surprised when you have alot of real hair shedding when wash it out it's just the hair that naturally falls out everyday only it's caught up in the braid.

Enjoy your lurvely hair!

Kirsty,

I assume you got tracks (cornrows) with wefts sewn onto them? If so, they really are quite tight for the first few days, and then they loosen up. If they're individual microbraids, the pain shouldn't last more than 48 hours at the most either. I would only worry if your scalp or hair looks damaged. A few little red bumps wouldn't be all that unusual, but if you're bleeding/scabbing, your hair feels like it's breaking, or the pain is unbearable, I would have them removed. (Some itching is normal, too.) In the meantime, you should probably take some aspirin or Tylenol.

Good luck!
:)

hi no the pain isnt unbearable i dont really notice it that much till i start worrying... an asprin would prob do trick.

they are micro braids .

i dont think my hair is breaking. i was just scared that the weight migth be pulling my hair out..?

i def dont have any bleeding or scabbing.

i just got them done on sat. so do you think the itchyness wiill pass?

and itl just take some time to get used to the heavyness?

thanks jenny

Hiya hun, it sounds normal to me, just keep a close eye on the roots of the braids and make sure you cant see any white bulbs on loose hairs because that means it's being pulled out :)

If you still find it heavy in a few days time, why not try layering the braids like you would normal hair? this loooks REALLY pretty a lot of the time and makes a change from most peoples one length braids :)

They're heavy, it's normal.

watch the loose hairs like kate said.

In a week or so it won't hurt/itch nearly as bad.

they probably used 4 or 5 pcks of hair to do the braids.  that's a lot of weight.  It just takes some getting used to.  Be prepared if/when you wash that it will be really haevy if you get the length of the braids wet.

Do you have a picture of your hair now?  Are the braids open ended?  How did they seal the braid?  And what did they charge you?  Just curious.
