I have found a few threads on this subject in the forum.  Do you know if their is an online demo or a video or DVD that I can look at or purchase?  Since I've never cut any hair before I need a little help getting started :-)

Cutting synth hair isn't too different than cutting real hair.  You do have to thin it more as a general rule.  but not really differently just more.

As to video guides no idea.  though I bought a book last week for fun.  Still haven't read it.  If it's any good I'll let ya know.

Mochachip, I have never cut real hair either so I think that will be the biggest challenge unless I can find someone in my area to do it.  What book did you buy?  I just ordered Extensions:  The Official Guide to Hair Extensions from Amazon.

yea, i just got my ext done but the ends are not so hot. my bf tried to thin them with a cut comb, much how we all discuss, and while he made them look better, they still do not look great.

so, i'll be eyeing this thread. i really don't want to go pay someone who doesn't know synth hair to just cut off two morte inches and have it look the same as it does now.

i love plastikhaar

It depends on how much your trying to cut.. I have some dvds from diffrent hair people.. but the best advise.. Go to a cheap beauty store and buy some hair sis...cut the hair with your blades always facing up.. it may take a few times to figure it out but youll get it.. dont be scared to stick the blade up in the hair and cut.. start at one side and end up at the other.. kinda like a old type writter.. The tech term is called point cutting.. that will work the best..

I think cutting synth compared to cutting hh is totally different.  Try the point cutting technique kris metioned, but use thinning shears.

Merg, where's your pic's girl?

On another thread, many mentioned  "feather scissors" working great for cutting ends. I use a bics razor but plan on buying feather scissors.

Never cut straight across.
Use a hair cutting razor in adition to texture scissors.

Make sure yto take small sections.

If syn hair is cut wrong it looks like chop sticks.

Wish i knew of a dvd or video.

Humm

Let me think on that one.

Hi there!  Pictures would help a lot.  I haven't had time, but I'm about to look online and see if I can find any videos.

I have taken the pictures, and will put them online tomorrow. In denmark it is now 10:30PM (that´s evening right), and I´m going to bed.

Here you se how the hairroot looks like, when you have straight, wawy or curly hair.

This is how you should hold the hair when you cut it.

Follow the shape of the head. Imaging the hair standing directly out in the air, like the picture.

Part your hair like the pictures.

Part your hair 1 cm from the nape. Comb the hair down. Cut the hair in the desired lenght, in a natural curv that follows the nape (in the picture it is called "retningslinie").

Make new partings in the hair, and comb them down, and cut after the "retningslinie" (I don´t know the correct word ).

Now we cut the front hair. Make a parting 1 cm from the hairline.
Comb it downwards, and cut like shown in the picture.
Continue to make partings, going to the back of your head, and comb down, like you did the back of your hair.

Top photo: The hair from the back and side are adjusted.
Right above: Use the clients eyes, cheekbones and shoulders to make sure that the haircut is even in both sides. At this point the hair will fall in a soft curv round the head and neck.

To be contiuned ....

Now we want to soften up the haircut, and put layers in it.
Top picture: Part the hair as shown.
Right above: Preparing to layer the back hair. The napehair has allready been cut.
Now you loosen 1 cm partings at the time, and comb it forwards, and cut it at the "retningslinie" (se picture).

1 cm partings is made, and the hair i combed forwards and cut in the same length as the front hair. The previous cut front hair determines the new guideline.

This is the book I have used. It´s from 1984, and is translated from "Home Haircutting Made easy" by Doris Daily Troesch.
So try looking at your library. Maybe it will make more sense than me trying to translate .

Regards,
Synne
