Hello ladies,
This is kinda OT, but I value your opinions. I've been looking
into getting a more expensive flat iron, but I'm wondering if it's
worth the money. I currently have a $25 Conair Instant Heat
Ceramic 2" iron. It has adjustable temperature, and I really like
it. However, the lady who does my nails (and is going to school
for hair) thinks I should get a better iron. Her recommendation
was a HAI iron (like she has), but after a lot of reading on
folica.com, I thought the 1.5" Sedu seemed best. (The HAI and CHI
irons seemed to break after a few months.) Still, it's $125 for a flat
iron.
Are the expensive irons really better? Folica does have a 30-day
return policy, so it might be worth a try. I just wonder what
accounts for the $100 difference.
ETA: Unlike a lot of people looking for a serious flat iron, my hair is
actually quite easy to straighten. It just has a loose, slightly
frizzy wave naturally. With the Conair iron, it takes me 10-15
minutes to get all my hair.
Thank you!

I have an expensive on and it works great. I have a FHI with the red plates. I can't say if it works better than the cheaper ones, I know that the temperature setting may be different, like the expensive ones may get hotter, but don't quote me on that.
Also try ebay for stuff like that. I got two off ebay... My FHI's are around 120 or so and I got them off ebay for like 60.
I have a maxiglide (from ebay) and it is great. I can use it on my fine wavy hair, and once a week I do my best friends african american kinky curly hair. I love it, it makes the hair very silky and I only use one pass, even on her hair!
I've had it since 2000! It's still going strong. Keep in mind I use it day in day out on several clients a day.The heat is consistent. Heats up quick, smooths the hair quickly and it gets the hair ultra sleek or you can put bend in the hair. On shorter hair...you can actually get a barrel curl.
I've used others, including Chi and I prefer the Salano. I absolutely recommend this iron!
Honestly, the best one that I found, and is really good price, is by revlon.
It's just a basic flat iron, adjustable temp. My roommate had one exactly
like that, but I think it was by heat wave, it worked really good too, but
you really couldn't tell the difference between the two.

i spent £120 on ceramics (GHD best in the uk dono if u get them in us) and they lasted a couple of years they were good at first but gradually got crap and didnt heat up properly.
so my new ceramics cost £20 and theyr just as good.
i dont think there is much difference between them as long as theyr solid ceramic plates and heat up to like 190-200 dgree
I have bought the expensive salon irons for clients and friends. In my opinion the ones that get so very hot are great for professionals we have to get you done and out the door. But on a daily basis it's to much. A few of them have fried there hair! If you can get it straight with out all that heat then don't get one of these irons.
