Hi, so I am sitting here playing with my Lush hair and just wondering how I can use it without using  shrinkies.  Has anyone ever tried using the Pro-tac and puting strands on the tape?

Do you think it would be even possible?

I hate the thought of a 4 hour install, espcially since I can do a pro-tac in under 1.5.  And I hate thinking of just letting this hair sit here with nothing to do.

Any ideas?

This thread talked about making wefts, maybe that would work with the Lush*Hair?

I would suggest flattening the tip of each strand with the extension iron so the hair would lay flat but would stay put.  You could also use some kind of overcast/blanket stitch on the machine in between the rows of stitching illustrated in the referenced website and could use a water soluable backing material like this instead of tissue paper: http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=82283&PRODID=79 658

so that all you would be left with is the hair and the thread.  I think it could work!

Oh boy, that looks way too difficult to me.

I was just thinking that maybe I could just slap some of these babies onto the tape and pop them in.  Maybe I will just have to experiement.

it seems like a good idea for doll hair, but I just cant picture using a weft like that in real life.

I think that it could definately be done better than the doll hair example at least the way I see it in my head (puzzle... puzzle, I MUST solve the puzzle ). But, yeah, it would still be a lot of work to do it well.  Why don't you try a small side weft with some of the lush flattened out onto the tape and see how it does?  Do you have enough to experiment?

Ok, so I did a small test today.  I flatend out some of the Lush tips with my wand and placed 6 of them on a 1 1/2 inch strip and slapped her in.  So far it has been 6 hours and  no slippage.  I put them in the side of my head, and then had to put my hair in a pony, teach 2 aerobic classes, then took a shower.  So far so good!!  Here are the pics.

Sorry they are blurry, but my camera won't focus on things that close.  I suppose if I read the manual I could figure it out.  Anyways, I did trim the Pro-tac down width wise.  The only thing that I would worry about is how much coverage would I get.  Would I get the same fullness with 4oz of hair in pre-tips or would I get more with 4oz of weft.  Does anybody know the average length of a 4oz weft?

I think that this method would work, I just wonder would it give me enough fullness for the same price?

Anyways, I will keep you up dated as the wear goes.

Ok, so I did some more figuring and measuring.  I have approx. 39.5 inches of Pro-tac in and at 4 strands per inch.  I would need about 158 strands.  So, a typical instal with pre-tips is usually 200-250 (right?)  this should give me enough to do a whole head this way, but I still wonder how thick it will be.

What is common experience with Lush, did most people end up using more than 200 strands?

Great, I will probably be up all night conteplating how I can install this Lush with Pro-tac and get enough fullness with my 200 strands.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm  There goes my night!!

gsmilie. A typical install for me with 22 inch hair would be 6-7 ounces. With the volume and body of Lush, probably 6 ounces would do...so that equals 300 strands of Lush!

Ah ha, so now I just need to get 100 more strands and I will be trying this, well maybe I will just wait and see how this small section does.  Maybe I will pull my bottom row out and replace it with Lush.  Hey, now that's an idea.  I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks for the help Sherrie.

keep me posted girlie....I wondered the same thing about the strands and tape...I have 6 ounces of Lush sitting here and really dont want to switch back to shrinkies any time soon! I hate those long installs! I cant even do a shrinkie install in 4 hours....takes me LONGER than that!

I still have my doubts that it will hold up...but Im keeping my fingers crossed that is does!
