QuoteReplyTopic: Pro-Tac--11 days in, update Posted: February 12 2006 at 12:30pm
I've had my wonderful new hair for 11 days now, with the Pro-Tac bonds
overall holding strongly.
Worrier that I am, first I worried that they wouldn't stay in. Once I knew
they were well-stuck in there, I started worrying about getting them out!
Like some others here, I found the two little strips I put on the top nearer
the part to be a little loose, so I decided to remove and reinstall them just
to be sure I could get them out. I rubbed Redkin Hair Butter conditioner
into the bonds and within two minutes they were totally out of my hair! I
noticed no hair loss, damage or residue left on my hair, and the Pro-Tac
came off the removed wefts easily. It was stuck a little to the bonded part
of the weft, but scraped right off with my fingernail. I'm going to touch
up my roots in the crown today and reinstall those pieces, now with NO
worry that I'm thrashing my own hair.
This method is astounding--not one glitch from beginning to end. Next
full install I'm going to double the wefts in the back and do (gulp!)
Shrinkies in the sides, front, and crown. This Elite Remy is holding up
well, too: shiny, soft, and no tangles or mats. I'm the world's biggest
skeptic, but even I have to admit that this is one innovation that stands
up to its promises.

So glad to hear that it is going so well Kristie! I will be doing a Pro Tac install next. I thought it would be this week as I am getting new weft hair in, but my Lush hair is doing better than expected so I might leave well enough alone and hold off another week.
This is very encouraging news! Also, I didn't post on your new install post, but have to say that both the long and short styles suit you. I really liked your summer makeup palette though. The pink lipstick was fab and very young looking!

Thanks for the positive feedback, Sandy! I've always enjoyed
experimenting with makeup but hated makeup people at cosmetics
counters wanting to put their products on my face. Last summer I got
brave and had a full make-over from a Bobbi Brown representative. The
guy was fabulous and it revolutionized my approach to my makeup. I
have very dark circles under my eyes -- with some amazing Bobbi Brown
concealer products I'm able to almost completely erase them without
looking like I put the stuff on with a spackle knife. That pink palette was
another great idea the cute little Bobbi Brown guy showed me. It has
been almost 90 in Southern California the last few days so I've dragged
out my spring and summer pinks again. I'd forgotten how much I like
wearing them. I only buy Bobbi Brown makeup now and haven't found a
product I don't love. I haven't felt so confident of my appearance since I
was in my twenties.

Yay! I'm so excited to hear all of this. I just ordered the pro-tac too (and
was VERY scared because of the whole glue-ish issue, but figured, why
not atleast give it a try?) And the Elite Remy hair (which I'm really freaking
out about since I hate getting all excited about new hair, and then in 3
days having it look like a rat's nest! But, I trust AMM, so I figured I should
give this all a go.
To hear you removed them easily just relieved 100 pounds off my chest!!

Yep, they came out so easily. I was relieved, let me tell you. I first tried
to use Aussie 3 Minute conditioner (someone else recommended it) and it
didn't seem emollient enough. So I tried Redkin's Smooth Down Butter
Treat (my S.O. has long thick curly hair prone to dryness so he has all
kinds of good products that I've never been able to use before) and it
worked like magic. It smelled so good that I put a little on after
shampooing as a leave-in conditioner and my hair is even softer than
before. The other amazing thing was that ALL the tape came right off,
leaving the wefts as clean as before I installed them the first time. They
went back on in about 3.2 seconds. No scalp irritation, no hair
loss...who'd a thunk it?
Query: Does heavy conditioner really remove it? I was gonna order some of the Orange stuff with another pack of protac even though I have tons of LG remover at home but now maybe I don't need to? (Btw, is LG remover bad for the hair? My last takedown I got it all over my head and my hair felt really horrible after, sorry OT)

I've been trying to figure out the pros and cons of using conditioner vs.
orange oil to remove Pro-Tac from reading the different posts here.
From what I can tell, the orange oil does a great job of getting any
adhesive out of the hair. I have some as a back-up if conditioner isn't
enough but haven't had to use it yet. I'm sure I'll need it for the Shrinkie
residue once I'm using those. (Woo hoo--just heard from Amm this
morning that my Elite Remy EZ Fusion strands are in and on their way!)
Some who have used the orange oil seem to be saying that the Pro-Tac
turns into a slimy gunk on the wefts. You just add more Pro-Tac and
reinstall, so this slimy gunk doesn't seem to be a big deal. Now, I had no
slimy gunk using just conditioner: the wefts came out easily and were
perfectly cleaned with little effort.
I don't know if there is more oil or some chemistry on some hair and
scalps that makes the Pro-Tac slimy on the wefts when they're removed,
or whether it is the product one uses to remove them.
I do know that some have reported the the orange oil burns their scalp.
I'm a little concerned about this myself because I have hypersensitive skin
to many chemicals.

Thanks for the reply Kristie , I have really sensitive everything and I didn't even think about the orange oil issue. But I guess I should get some for backups sake. When my freetress is ready to go it is ready to go! My 1st two installs with latex glue where such a horrid distaster I wore a wig all weekend. (If only if I found this site sooner!)
