Boring question, sorry! lol - I have fine straight hair that reaches about 2" below my collarbone. I like having extensions that are are about 3" longer than that but I want to basically keep the look of having fine hair, just slightly thicker, and not again (I've had 3 sessions of extensions) have the thick, full head of hair-look.
With my first experience, the extensionist put 4 tracks on my small(!) head and I hated it! It felt totally fake and wiggy. Since then I have had 3 and then 2 tracks. I may be the only woman around who doesn't want big hair, but I'm wondering if I could get away with just one track of long hair? (I'm only interested in sewn in ext.s). I think I remember being told I would need another track to cover the other, but now that I think about it, that doesn't really make any sense.
you could (and i am NO expert so get a 2nd opinion) put a double weft on a single track, layer the heck out of the ends so it'll blend. that might be more comfy for you.

Hard to answer this without seeing your head.. Blending with weaves really is all about the quality of the braids, and the cut.. Simply puting in a few tracks without attempting to cut the hair to blend in with yours is the key to a natural look. Off the TOP of my head I would say that if 2-4 tracks looks "wiggy", it could be that your stylist is making the tracks too thick so that the weft looks like it's "sitting up" underneath your own hair if that makes sense... The tracks need to be as thin as possible so that there is enough hair to support the weft without looking thick and bumpy when your natural hair covers the track. Or he/she could be using too many wefts per track.. We'd really have to see pics to give better info. Pics of the tracks would go a long way in helping figuring out what's not working and why.. 1, 2, 3, 4 tracks should blend, there's other factors in making this work..

Thanks for the great advice! The tracks I have right now are super-thick and kind of stick out like speed bumps under my hair. There's no way these puppies can be hidden completely if it's a windy day, but I guess I'm a little addicted to the look of long hair and I like that weaves take far less time than the other methods. I think I will need to shop around for another extensionist in my area who knows how to make a thinner track, but the one I have now otherwise is great.

Why not try using Pro-tac yourself. It is alot easier than you think, espcially if you are only wanting a couple of tracks. There is alot of info on this method on this board, do a search and I think that you will be surprised. Also, it is not bulky or wiggy. No speed bumps with this method!!!

LOL - so true about being hard to please! I am definitely going to find out more on this technique as it sounds good.

One of the greatest things about DIY with Protac and wefts is that you
can experiment (for some of us, obsessively and continually) until
you find just the perfect amount of hair, kind of hair, color of hair
and placement, and until you're fully satisfied, without having to
spend tons of money on an extensionist. (The initial supplies and
hair can get a little costly, but still are way less than you'd pay to
have extensions done, and you get to re-use your stuff over and
over.) My learning curve has taken about four months to get me
where I'm 98% satisfied. If something I try doesn't work, I just whip
out the acetone and remove my experiment. Then I'm ready to
obsess some more until I've thought of something different to try.
Eventually that problem gets figured out and I move on to the next
little thing I just HAVE to fix!

Ahhhhh therein lies the problem.. My guess is that your stylist is making the tracks thick because you have fine hair.. A little synthetic hair will help strengthen the tracks so they don;t HAVE to be thick. Talk to your stylist, and if she can't adjust her technique, then yes I would say find another stylist.. The tracks should be thin to make the tracks undetectable..

Most light hair colors have a little darker hair at the roots. If you darken the weft from the top about 2 or 3 inches down it won't show when it's windy and your hair gets blown around.
