Looks like I'm going to be wearing my current installation of extension hair for a full eight weeks this time! I've been coming up on six weeks of wear and was planning on taking it down and reinstalling it on Thursday even though it has been holding up pretty well. But, Saturday, I had an unfortunate gardening accident and cut my hand pretty badly with a pruner. Pretty sad, but as I was sitting in the ER getting stitches, all I could think of was how I was going to take down my extensions this week (I use acetone) with stitches in my hand! At first I thought maybe I'd use a latex glove but realized that I need the feel of my fingers to work the hair off the tape. The stitches stay in two frigging weeks so I guess this installation is going to last me until Memorial Weekend! I'd really love to regularly be able to go eight weeks between installs, but have been too OCD to wait before redoing it. So maybe my unfortuate garden accident was a good thing after all.
ouchie ouchie.....hope you arent in alot of pain kristie. just a thought...the latex glove thing probably wouldnt have worked anyway, since the acetone will break down latex.
hmmm, well you could just use this opportunity to see just how long protac'd wefts can stay in your hair...........
i have a pair of nonlatex 'household duty' gloves (dishwashing gloves), i bought them at Dollar General, that's what i use when i remove the polish from my toenails to keep my manicure from getting wisked off
but, i'd think your widdle hand might be too sore for installing, not just the need to protect your stitches
but is your garden lookin good at least ?

Thanks, guys! I'm not hurting too badly. They gave me Vicoden but Advil is keeping the owie away just fine. I've tried to think of all the possible glove options that would work with acetone, but think I'm just gonna give this Protac the big test and go eight weeks.
And yep, Nursie... I was just at the end of about five hours of gardening, making everything nice for Spring, when I decided to prune my own hand. Everything looks soo pretty! My hand will heal in a week or two, and that garden will be pretty all Summer long.
i accidently stabbed my hand a few years ago and gave myself some pretty severe nerve damage (i was just a few nerve slices from needing my hand chopped off). now i have feeling back in most of my hand, but the thumb is still "thick-feeling" and tingly, so doing my own installs, even with protac, is iffy on my left side. the worst part is not having true feeling in "leftie", so when i'm looking in a mirror to do the back of my head, the brain communication is even more confused.
you're hand will get better, i hope it's not too bad. get well soon and congrats on finishing your gardening! (i should weed mine eventually.....)

I got super lucky as far as nerve damage. I cut myself quite deeply and even the doc was surprised all the feeling and movement was intact in that hand. My first thought when I'd realized how badly I was hurt was: dang! how will this affect doing my extensions? (We're a sick bunch, yanno!)
we ARE a sicko bunch! just the other day i was daydreaming during a rather redundant/boring meeting at work: that if i ever need some emergency something-or-other,and they should need to shave my head for some reason-or-other: i really should be letting my family members know to grab those wefts of hair before they land in the trash.....i can reinstall that stuff after i wash the blood off of it and my hair grows out long enough to protac it in

Laffin... I was thinking the same thing about getting sick and needing chemo... :::I already have the wigs to get through the first few months, then 1 1/2 inches of hair growth and I'm back in Protac and wefts!:::
Weird priorities, huh?
I turned 50 in November and had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago... my first thought when I woke up from the anesthesia was whether my wefts were were showing! (Second thought was, dang, I have to fart BAD! Sorry, I know... TMI... but actually, the procedure wasn't bad at all.)
nursie: you need help. really. wash the blood off? TMI, sugar. as for the protac: the stuff is made for toupees anyway so you don't even need to grow out your hair in order to have hair. just stick it on your bald, bloody scalp!
