QuoteReplyTopic: Need your opinions........... Posted: June 09 2006 at 4:11pm
I need people's opinions. I will make a long story short, in case you have already read my horror story of my hair extensions! I have had them in for about a year..........Tressallure hair extensions. I have been soooo displeased!..............this last install sent me over the edge and i have spent $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on these extensions........that i am now addicted too! $175 for real human hair............. Im FRUSTERATED!! This last install was horrible..........she didnt use all the hair, and i have gaps and you can see my hair underneath..................not to mention almost every time they are taken out, she cuts my natural hair................which i have been trying to grow out ! I havent been able to find anyone in my area that does these types of extensions.................TIL..............the other day! I happen to be in a salon where i get my hair products and there is a gal there that does they extensions! Now to get to my question, that i need your opinions...................she went to a class to learn to do these extensions.....................BUT.................she hasnt built a clientel yet. She installed these in one of the gals in the salon...........which means she has only done this 1 time! Should i trust her? I met with her and told her my story.............she looked at my hair and told me that i didnt have enough hair in my head, and my extensions were placed too far apart. She can fit tons more hair on my head! I am sooooo afraid to trust anyone again! It cant be any worse than what i look like now! She also told me that i needed to use extension products on my hair................to allow them to last longer! SO.........what do you all think? Should i trust this new gal? Everyone has to start somewhere???? How can i be much off worse than i am now??? Course IF i do hate them......................then what???? Sorry this is soooo long............i know i sound crazy..................but really i need some opinions here on what to do! Also i never knew that i needed 2 boxes of hair...................she has only used a 1/2 box on me.................my new gal is gonna use my previous hair and another box. I can imagine that my hair will be full and beautiful!

You must be so frustrated~ I'm sorry this all has happened to you.
I'm not experienced enough with extensions to give an 'expert' opinion with what to do, but... I was going to suggest that everyone needs to learn how to perfect their craft... including extensions. Can this new gal give you a nice price break due to the fact that she is not yet an expert? The only concern is that someone without much experience could maybe damage your hair...? That said, this new gal sounds like she knows her stuff more than the previous person.
No matter what you decide, I think maybe you shouldn't go back to the previous girl. If you are unhappy with the results and feel like she has scammed you, you aren't going to feel confident with her services at all.
I hope it all works out for you!

Thanxs so much for replying...............i didnt get to see the gal she had done....................i wish i had! She will give me a price break...........except not on the hair im going to buy. She would like me to "spread the word" so she can get some clients. At this time...........i am doing install's every 3 weeks ($100) and buying new hair 2-3 mo at $175. Im thinking with this new gal, i may be able to go at least a month before needing them redone. Im more afraid of my hairdresser at this time, ruining my hair.......she isnt even using the proper product to remove the extensions, and is in a big rush to get done, and on with her next client......not to mention im in there every 3 weeks to have a 2hr session of removing these. She then puts the hair back in without conditioning/washing it. Having a consult with this new one...............made me feel she know's what she's doing and "goes by the book" as far as product.........maintenance........overall knowledge. I know what my "gut" feeling is...............but i had to post this, cuz everyone is so friendly and actually responds quick!
without knowing her, it sounds like the new lady knows more than the previous one....so i dont think you could be losing much by switching....have you read through this site really well? even when we leave the work to someone else it's never a bad idea to go into things as an educated consumer so you can know if the new lady is an idiot BEFORE she completely ruins your hair
and if you have that that much money to pay to someone it is time for you to grow up and be terribly ASSeritive NOW (thats right, the first three letters of assertive is what you have to be at times)

I can't believe the previous idiot took the extensions out and didn't
wash your hair, just put them back in. That's crazy b/c the stuff she
used to take them out needs to be washed out!!!!!!! Also, every three
weeks? Are you kidding? That's totally ridiculous!
Why don't you try protac or liquid gold? It's so much cheaper and less
damaging than the individuals. The wefts also give you more fullness.
What was the new girl doing in the salon you were shopping at? Was she getting her hair done by someone in there? Or did she work there? I'm just being inquisitive but I'm wondering why she would already be asking you "to spread the word" when she hasn't done your hair yet? I have learned the hard way (over and over and over) and I've come to the conclusion that it's always a crapshoot when someone is doing your hair. What kind of install is she planning for you? Good luck whatever you decide!

If the new girl has only done extensions once before, she should NOT be charging yet (IMO) except for the price of the hair...she needs to get a lot more experience...again, that's just my opinion...
I'd say just learn to do protac yourself, it is so easy and so much cheaper...and with wwefts, you never get gaps...after about 5 installs, I definitely have the hang of it...though now that I'm training for a triathlon, I dont have any in cause I'm swimming so much...
ANyways...be careful, without experience you are going to be a guinea pig...that in itself is not a bad thing, just make sure that she isnt charging you an arm an a leg to do that...
Please only go to liscensed professionals. they know how to Properly cut, blend and style hair.
Ask her if you can talk to the other gal she did and MEET with her.
Far as discount, yes she should deff give u a huge break. I didnt make any money on any installs until i did at least 5 full heads- the and only then did i start to charge. so many people are doing extensions cause they see green, be cautious, dont be in a hurry and dont seem desperate.
you do not need to get your hair done every three weeks and what method is she doing?
far as your current stylist- go talk to her- tell her how u are feeling, if she has any professionalism, she will try to work with you or wish you well.
Most Stylists like to know why a client chooses to leave, it helps for growth on our part.
Bringing beauty, one head at a time...

Some of what I’m gonna say is going to come off harsh, and if it does I apologize now..
I am failing to understand why you are continuing to patronize a stylist who is not providing good service or even good work based on your description.. REGARDLESS of if she's the ONLY stylist you know of doing Tressallure extensions, you're CLEARLY not happy with her work.. Take your time and find a stylist who is going to make you happy.. Like Tangles said, don't be in a hurry or desperate..
Aside from the fact that until now you thought she was the only game in town, why are you even dealing with her?? There is NO WAY I would continue to pay this stylist one more dime or let her work on my hair if I'm not happy or if she is doing things I don't like!! However, if this were me, I also would have SPOKEN UP a long time ago.. This is YOUR hair and YOUR money.. You should have said SOMETHING to this woman long ago.. She's cut your hair when you didn't want it.. She's improperly installed the hair.. She doesn’t even wash the extension hair when she re-installs it, AND if she is using LESS hair on a re-install she is not following the Tressallure processes for reinstalls..(http://www.tressallure.com/movies/Movie_installation.wmv) and if you don’t mind sharing, what are you paying currently for this method, and what does the possible future stylist plan to charge?? Given the method, IMO this should be a fairly inexpensive installation.. Certainly not thousands of dollars.
So you found a possible new stylist.. Do you have to tell your (hopefully) soon to be former stylist that you are going to take your business elsewhere?? IMO.. NO you don't HAVE to talk to her.. You can talk to her if you would like her to know for her own professional growth, and hopefully she will improve for her future clients.. But if it were me, I would be done with her. You're not talking about one mishap, we're talking about and ON GOING mishap each time you see this woman.. IMO, that requires finding another professional to handle your needs..
Now, I understand the DIYers here advice to you, but I am one of those people who doesn't have the time (or the inclination) to put in my own extensions. I know it's easy to do, yada yada yada.. And there is no doubt in my mind that the DIYers here do AMAZING work on their own hair.. I am impressed, but I am saying that I can understand the desire to let a professional do this for you.. (the lazy factor) That said, you need to check out this other stylist out BEFORE you make the leap. Speak to the one client she has done. Ask if you can SEE her hair.. and when I say see her hair, I mean SEE HER HAIR.. Look at the bonds/wefts, see how the hair is placed so you can compare it to your own.. Should she give you a discount because she's NEW?? Absolutely!!! She SHOULD give you a discount if she's new at this, but a discount for her services, not the hair.. You need to AT LEAST pay for the cost of the hair (without a markup).. She shouldn't eat the cost of the hair because she's new at this..
After that just know that there is a risk involved because she doesn't have enough of a body of work to prove her skill level BEFORE you sit in her chair, but that doesn't mean she's not good at what she does.. However, you need to discuss with her ALL of the concerns you've had with your previous stylist. Makes sure she understands how you expect her to service you, and see if it's a fit.
Lastly Tressallure is a tape bonded extensions method similar to Protac, and as such your stylist is right that you need to use products that will not compromise the bonds. This will make your extensions last longer.. If cared for properly they should last 4-6 weeks, and if removed properly they should not cause damage or breakage..
You do realize you can order Tressallure Extension kits yourself and avoid the middleman?? You should be able to take this kit to the stylist to have them install it.. This is no different than stylists who will work with hair the client brings in.. This could save you a few bucks.. Here in California, I can buy Tressallure kits at Sally's.. You could have found out where they are selling the kits and names of Tressallure stylists in your area by going here: http://www.tressallure.com/tressallure_find.htm . If you had done your research on this method, you woud have known that you could buy Tressallure hair kits at Sally's in Cincinnati as well. Plus you would been able to locate other salons in your area that sell (and probably install) Tressallure extensions.. I took the liberty of listing them for you. I found this by Googling "Tressallure".. Revlon's Tressallure site was pretty much the first thing that came up..

Allusions 9200 Montgomery Rd Bldg B Suite 5A Cincinnati, OH 45242 US Phone: 513-891-5411
IMO before you spend ONE MORE DIME on extensions, you need to take some time and do some research.. Look into all methods.. If you like this metod great stick with it.. But look at several stylists, and THEN and ONLY then make an informed decision before you do business with another stylist.. It will save you lots ot time, money and aggravation..

Ok...............i want to add that i moved to Cincinnati from Seattle and i still dont know how to get around.............and also dont know many people. I have tried to do as much research on these extensions as i possibly can...........internet............phone book............etc. I realize that sloowing my previous hairdresser to do this to me was my own fault! I put all my trust in her and like i said i knew no one else. I have found other salon's that do GL...........but that cost is outreageous! Also im not interested in the strand by strand method! Thank you all that replied..........you helped me alot. After going through this experience i am now going to be very ASSERTIVE!!! This definately was a learning experience!
There are so many different ways to apply hair extensions and these days the process is getting easier and better while not doing too much damage to your hair. Firstly, I think you should find a hairstylist that is very well trained in hair extensions and knows exactly what they are doing. There is also no need to start off big. You can always have a few extensions at the back of your hair to see how you go for the first month. That way you can see what happens to your hair and if extensions really are for you.
also i think you should read this article as it helped me alot to understand all about hair extentions
