do you know for sure if you want an individual strand method or a weft method? Suggestions will be differnt based on what method you prefer. There are some methods that are even easy enough for a DIY to accomplish.
if you are doing a DIY install then prices are pretty comparable for either method. You could do a shrinkie install or a microring install. Easy enough for a DIY, even better with help. Very time consuming for a DIYer, but lasts longer than weft methods. A new Diyer can expect to take 6+ hours to install. And a couple of hours to takedown. Individuals are easier to do updo's. Can be damaging if clean sectioning isnt used.
Even easier are the weft methods. Protac is SIMPLE, and takes alot less time, and is quite goof proof and gentle on the hair. It wont last as long as as an individual method but is quick to install and take down. Can usually be done in an hour or so. Low to mid ponytails are easy to do. Updos are more difficult but can be done with the right placement of wefts.
there's a micro-cylinder hair extension method and a microchet hair extension method, idk if you were mentioning either one of these but which one would prefer for someone in my situation with the whole cheerleading thing? lol thx
Not sure what being a cheerleader has to do with what method you choose, but I think you need to speak to some stylists, and do some more researching on this forum for information on the various extension methods.
All of the various methods lots of styling options. Some methods take more time and money to install than others.. You have to determine what is within your budget/individual style.. We can all tell you here what we use, what we like and why, but I feel that extensions is an extremely individual choice.. One size does not fit all..
You need to look at all the methods and see which one "rings your bell". After that you have to decide which hair to use, and whether or not you will have them professionally installed or you will attempt to do it yourself..
Honestly since you are active, I think the MOST important decision you need to make is what hair you will use.. Go for high quality hair if your budget will permit. HTH

Let me see if I can help. I have been searching ruthllessly for months for the right install for me. I have tried protac, liquid Gold(bonding glue), silicone lined micro rings, shrinks and fusion. I have used a number of hair brands too. These include Lush(not sold anymore), Jetset, Bohyme and Wawa(synthetic).
The easiest install by far is the protac tape. The downfall for me is that I am allergic to it. My skin is crazy, I'm even allergic to bandaids....The Liquid Gold was great, but not easy for me, others find it very easy and love it. The micro rings were not for me, I hated them. They were very uncomfortable for me and hurt my scalp something aweful! Took them out the day after I put them in. Fusion has been great, now that I figured out how to take care of it. The shrinks are great too. They both require help for the DIYer, someone very patient and into beauty. I have dark hair, so sometimes the shrinks show a little, and a high ponytail is out of the question with them for me. Fusion again is great, BUT you need to be very careful installing(CLEAN sectioning) and removal(NO pulling the hair out before it's detatched). Shrinks are TON easier to remove in my opinion. They take forever to install! My husband just did mine 2 weeks ago, and it took him over 10 hours to just do the back.
With any install you need to use a high quality shampoo and conditioner. Most everyone around here recommend Pureology, Abba or Biolage Hydrateing. NO conditioner near the bonds. Brushing before and after shower as well as thru out the day. Ponytail at night to prevent tangling.
As far as hair, here is where more money can be worth it. My favorite so far is what I'm wearing right now which is the Bohyme bodywave. I bought it on a machine weft and tipped it myself with keratin. The jetset is also great, may not last as long, but it less expensive. Another option for you may be synthetic hair. It is a great alternative to human hair and is very inexpensive. There is Wawa, plastikhaar, and some other type at shrinkies.net. Wawa you can curl, plastikhaar you cannot. I have tried the wawa and personnaly hated it. It tangled on me like mad, I actually got a refund from the place I bought it cause they figured it was defective. Don't let that disuade you from trying it tho! Quite a few really like the plastikhaar too. If you go to the links section at the top of this forum there is a list of vendors, etc...
Places that I have personally dealt with that have been great are
Also, do a search for bohyme, there are loads of folks carrrying it. Sherrie will have it soon too.
And, I have to agree with DivaV, you MUST do loads of research before attempting any type of install. So, do some reading, grab a girlfriend, mother, sister, aunt and have a fun time! Welcome to the addiction!!

yes yes yes...I agree completely with the other posters. Any suggestions given here is just a starting point. Do your research. If you do a search on any of the suggested methods you will find a lot of information here. Research is a must. Make well informed choices.
I have had fusion with hair dreams which is almost like great lengths and sew-n hair extensions. The fusion was more expensive to me and I would be scared to do it myself if you have never had extensions. It can be damaging if you do not properly install and take them out correctly.
I would reccomend the protac method or a sew-n weave. These are called weft methods. The protac you can do yourself or get a friend to help you. I buy my protac at www.hairextensions101.com . There is a demo there so you can see how to do it.
The sew-n method you can get done at your local stylist for a reasonable price usually $100-250 for a full head of tracks. Your hair is braided from both sides and hair is sewn on the track. I had the least damage with this method. Just make sure they do not braid it too tight becuase if it hurts its too tight. This could pull your hair out from the roots. I remind them now before they start doing the install.
