My daughter has medium long, fine hair which is naturally a light brown color. It is in pretty good condition except for the last three or four inches on the ends which are sort of dry and split. She had lots of blond highlights until a few months ago when she had it colored red all over with permanent color. She has maintained it but now wants to go to all over blond color. Is this possible without totally damaging her hair?

We have discussed with three hairdressers and have gotten three different recommendations. One said to go back to blond highlights over the red (she doesn`t want highlights), one said to strip the red which would be difficult and could be damaging, and one said don`t do it.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

I would have to agree with the 2nd hairstylist, stripping your daughters hair may be the best thing to do, but it is VERY damaging.

Even though ppl do do it, (I`m one of them) you shouldn`t really dye over hair colour :(
And dying over a colour that is darker than the colour you want to dye it doesn`t really work all that well. You probably wouldn`t understand if I explained the levels to you so I`m not going to. I`ll just leave it at, dying over a darker colour doesn`t always work.

Thank you for the advice. I think that is what we will do. I hope her hair can handle it.

Hi,

I agree with Princess Daisy. Sometimes while it is possible to attain the color of our dreams, the damage and wear and tear to our hair is not worth it. Also, when possible I always strongly suggest that for any major color projects that you find the best colorist around.

Best wishes,
Karen
