Hi everyone! I`m working on growing out my hair and am going through a rough spot. My hair started in a short, chin-length bob that was stacked in the back. I`m now down to shoulder length (approx. 17-18") and am having strong urges to cut it again. I`ve gotten a lot of compliments with it both long and short. I absolutely adore long hair but am unsure if it suits me. My hair is on the thin side and straight, so it tends to look thicker when it`s short. I`ve been having this urge for several weeks now but my husband talked me out of cutting it. I know ultimately it`s my decision but I just wanted to be able to talk to someone about it. My family tends to think I`m a little crazy for being such a hair nut, so when I try to get their opinion they just laugh. (I`m constantly changing my mind about my hair) If I decide against getting it cut I only have 3" to my goal.
Thanks for listening. Becky

Hi there Becky! Lucky for you this board is full of hair nuts :). I completely understand your dilemma, I think most of us girls have been there. I was in the same situation a little while ago. My advice is to wait a little while longer, since you`re unsure what to do. If you cut it now you might regret it later on. See how you feel in a month or so. And, no matter how many compliments people give your different hairstyles, remember it`s stillyour hair, wear it the way you like.

Thanks for the advise Isla! I`ve been trying to hold myself off until my next trim (March 15) to give myself pleanty of thinking time. You mentioned you were in the same situation a little while ago. Do you mind me asking how it turned out? I`d love to hear about it.
Thanks. :) Becky

Okay, I`ve had long hair since I was about five years old (I`m 24 now), it was always about mid-back length. Two years ago I cut my hair, to a few inches below my chin, and got a lot of compliments. I kept it like that for over a year, and then I grew it out again. About two months ago I felt an itch to cut it again. But I also enjoy having long hair, and, like yourself, I had received those "are you growing your hair, wow, it looks great" type compliments. So I was torn, to cut or not to cut. Then I decided to stop obsessing over it and give it some time. Now I have decided I`m going to keep my hair long for a while. I mean, I can always cut it later if I really want to. Hope you find some `hair-peace` too. :)
It go through that same thing every time my hair reaches a certain point...or after I have had it long for awhile. I figured it out.....I get bored easily and love change!!! You have to look inside yourself and decide if youare a long haired spirit, or short. What makes you feel most like "you". Don`t worry about pleasing others. Please yourself. If getting compliments pleases you, then you are doing great as you get compliments on both looks. I hope this helps. I have the same "short hair" lapses, thinking that if I get it cut I will magically be happy with my hair. Then after the excitement over the change wears off, I am wishingit were long again. Hope I have been able to help you in some way.
If you`re gonna make a change: length color, perm, etc and are unsure, give it 3 weeks to decide. If after 3 weeks you still want to do it then you probably really want to.
Or this is my suggestion.
Make a pro and con list for both hair types.
See if you run out of pros or cons on either choice and then see how you really feel about each choice.
I definitely agree that hitting the "pause" button when you are not sure about making a change to your hair is always the best bet. I used to go to a long hair expert who would not cut long hair until after 2 sessions. He asked that his clients wanting to cut off their long hair come for two intermediate trims. He said that if they actually came for the 2 trims and still wanted to cut, he would do it but most people changed their mind during the elapsed time.
Thank you all for the great posts. As always, great advice is flowing here on this board. :-)
When I feel like I really need a change, I get long layers. They really bring out my natural waves, yet the overall length doesn't change much. Most people hardly even notice I've had a haircut. Plus, it only takes about six months to grow it back in.
