Has anyone here every "reset" their synth and "baked" it in the oven?

I was talking to a hairdresser friend of mine who said that when he gets synthetic pieces that are curly or wavy, he washes them with a gentle shampoo and then sets them on rollers on a traditional wig head that is not foam.

He said he then turns his oven on to 350 degrees.  When the over hits the temperature setting he turns it off, pops open the door and then leaves the wig head with the hair in the oven with the door open all night.

He said the "gentle" heat will bake in a new texture w/out damaging the synthetic hair.  Which is why he recommends using a wig form that can't melt.

Anyone ever try this with synthetic hair?

I found it all very fascinating.

That's interesting.. I haven't tried that, but I have set synth pieces by rolling them and dipping them in a pot of boiling water. I then let the pieces cool off, and dry and then remove the rollers. Perming rods or foam rollers work best.. (they don't melt)

the oven and boiling water would probably be perfect for the loose waves i want in my Elite Thermo (my curler is too small and my rollers don't seem to get hot enough).

misslou, I just installed the thermofiber on Saturday night. I got a "waving iron" (just like a curling iron or flat iron except it makes waves)! I have wet the hair several times but the wave does not fall out. I think it looks really good. You can see a picture of it here...

hflsales: you look like a lil kid!  so adorable!!  the waves are nice, but my natural hair's waves are much bigger than that, kind of like a loose body wave.  i'm thinking wrapping it around an empty cola can and dipping it in hot water....

Yeah! HFL, you look so young!!! And the hair is sooo natural!! I love it!! I am going to have to try this, I just don't know exactly how, the oven thing I get, but I have wefts, so maybe I could just wrap them and put them on a tray or something?

the boiling water completely confuses me! I have a feeling I would mess that one up majorly!

What a neat tip! I can't wait to expiriment with it! Man, what creative genius comes up with these things?!
