DOUBLE POST ALSO ON HAIREXTENSIONS101 FORUM

Well I just took out my super tape install. Everything went fine, no abnormal amount of hair seemed to come out, and I developed a nice routine for removing while cleaning....
THEN I SHOWERED
and just as much hair came out, when I used the orange oil remover to get the goo out. And the hair kept comming out. My scalp is still burning from the orange too after I shampooed 3 times atleast, and I currently have conditioner soaking in it.

I'm pretty upset, I don't quite know which part of this experience I need to be upset at though? Does any one have any type of idea? My main suspect right now is the orange oil, especially since my scalp seems to be sensative to it. ANY THEORIES WOULD BE GREAT THOUGH!

Tomarrow I'm going to hold off on the new install, just to see if whatever illness that has been plauging me for the last 6 months isn't now affecting my hair at a greater level, since my other symptoms have also increased (and I know there are a few ladies who have thyroid problems, and nope, been tested about 4 times for all types so that's one thing I know isn't causing it if it is medical)

I know that micros, because they're metal and single strand installations are generally consitered more damaging than something like protac or lg, but considering my current experinces with chemicals, do you think that might be a better option for me? simply avoid adhesives and chemicals?

TIA, I'm really really hoping that you gals have some sort of wise words here since you've helped me out so much already.

I just copied my answer to you from the other board! :

Hi BunnyWabbit!
Don't panic! I have experienced exactly the same thing and I experience it about every single time I take out hair extensions.
I know it's weird and you feel like you're about to get bald.
But quite honestly I don't think there's anything abnormal in this phenomena.
When I take out the extensions, I lose a lot of loose hair, especially during the shower, for some reasons.
I truly believe now that it is all my own hair strands that should have shedded but remained actually trapped in my head, because of the Protac tape and the Liquid Gold. Therefore when you release the tapes + LG, you release all this old hair strands that should have fallen out naturally during the few weeks or so of wearing the extensions. I noticed this phenomenon even for a 2 weeks time period of wearing extensions, but then the amount of "hair loss" is less important.
I experienced no problem when I take out the hair, no pulling at all. So this hair loss has got to be something that happends chronically, not all at once, if I am clear.
I remember on the board, a girl thought that her hair wasn't strongly anchored in her scalp, that it was maybe genetically too weak to bear extensions.
I thought that was plausible since I have very fine and fragile hair, like most women actually who wear extensions.
So I decided to take pictures for every take-down,
- of the amount of hair I lose every time
- of my "real" hair

The result for me is that the hair I lose every time is still amazing ( I do have a very bad tendency of scratching my scalp very often though, which must accelerate the hair fall) BUT for the first time in years, I have started to see my own hair growing again. Betweeen my december picture and my february picture I must have gained an inch to an inch and 1/2.
I was so excited to notice that!
I know I owe that to the Protac technique, which is much gentler that keratin fusion, that I used to do.
So to me this proves that even if I experience dramatic hair loss, it is not something to worry about.
I should stop scratching my scalp though Rolling%20Eyes
Sorry for the long post, but I know how panicked you can be when you feel like you're losing your own hair ( girls who wear extensions usually don't have a lot of that to begin with!) and I just wanted to share my own perspective.
Hope this will help! Wink

mmmmmmm even with protac or lg ur gona have to use chemicals to get it out.

i think oils aggravate some peoples skin anyway, i dont think its anything unusual.

Why dnt u try protac or lg?

i remove lg with acetone, yes that a chemical.
lg is acrylic. i work with acrylics in different forms everyday anyway and ive never had anyone had problems with the acetone to skin contact, which is what lg remover is. at most it feels really cold.

i use microrings on my hair but my hair is super thick,  my moms is very damaged and thin and i use lg on her. shes had no problems so far.

id say losing hair after install when u wash it is normal  too.
i get the same thing, i think its cos even tho u took the extensions out ,there is still hair of yours that you have losu naturally still 'stuck' in your hair.

or maybe your not being careful enough with your installs?
on my first few installs i pulled hair out also,  but you get a technique and learn wats to harsh on your hair in particular. maybe you place the weft to far up your hair? or maybe that particular hair is to heavy for your natural hair?

the most important part of extensions id say is the removal. thats the damaging part you have to be so careful. id personally point the finger at your installation and removals. you need a lot of patience.
extensions always damage when they are a quick job.

regarding the health thing, did yo have your iron and vitamin levels checked.  things such as anemia can make ur hair thinner.
why dont u try some  vitamin tablets?

Bunny...I agree with Frenchie and Bella 100%. It happends to me too...but my real hair is growing amazingly fast, and still have a LOT of hair on my head. LOL

If you are taking any thyroid medication, hair comes out a lot (that is one of many side effects)..but it grows back. If you are not taking medication yet, thyroid issues also affect your hair, nails, overall skin, etc. Dealing with thyroid issues can take a LONG time to get back to normal.
I had cancer in my thyroid, so my thryroid and all around it was removed.
I struggled about 2 years to finally get my health back to normal, and having my medication adjusted so I can finnally feel alive and healthy.

Check with your doctor and be patient, is worth the effort.  I wish you all the best!

Stay away from the Keratin Fusinon like Frenchie said. And keep rocking that hair!
I have to say again I agree with Frenchie and Bella 100%

I need to say, that hair extensions have been a PICK ME UPPER for me, God knows how much I struggled to look healthy and feel again, and gain back my self esteem after all these years of suffering. The MIND is such a powerfull thing!
You look in the mirror, you see a new you, you see that big smile again in your face, it sends a signal to your brain, your selfesteem goes up, your soul rejuvenates, your mind feels alive again, people around you feel that new energy...is a chain reactionClap

Sorry to hear of your problem.  I had a reaction to orange oil once too.  It was a brand that Mark Barrington was putting out for their Shrink Links.  Anyway, I had squirted it on my head, and about 30 seconds later it was as if my scalp was on fire.  I couldn't run to my sink fast enough to rinse it out.  I had my head under the sink for about 5 minutes with freezing water.  My head was so inflamed that my scalp was bright pink and painful for 3 days after that.

When I have done the protac weft installs, I have lost a lot of hair.  I don't loose as much with strands.  People think that wefts are less damaging, but that not necessarily true.  It depends on the strength of your hair.  For me, my fine hair can't really support the weight of a weft so I get a lot of root pull.  However, strands don't put as much tension on the hair so I get less root pull.

Of all the strands, I think that the shrink links and silicone lined microrings  generally don't cause damage.

Thanks for the help ladies :) I'm going to keep experimenting and figure out what method is good for me.  I think a combination of wefts being heavy and whatever heath issue has been plaguing me (probably auto-immune related is the theory right now) are combining to cause a little more loss that I would have typically. One good thing is my hair is definately healthier and slikier than before the extensions since I haven't been styling it as much.

THANKS LADIES!

I use olive oil mixed with sunflower oil and i rub them in the tape for a while and take down isn't too hard but it's messy.  I think it's also important to be gentle when you have the wefts in.  How long is your hair?  My hair is to my chin and I think I'd lose more if my hair was longer. Also birth control pills, accutane, and a lot of other medications could possibly be the culprit. They say stress can too but I'm always stressed and I don't lose hair Smile

the reason it looks like you are losing a ton of hair when you uninstall is simple

the average person loses 100 hairs every day through the normal ccycle of growth, dormancy and the hair being replaced by another

when your own hair is holding in extensions, it comes out at the root as normal at 100 hairs/day

but those hairs are attached by micro rings, glue or wahtevedr to extensions as part of a track/strand whatever.  so they cant just fall out like usual

meaning when you uninstall you have

however many days you had the extensions in
x
100 hairs a day

so thats
around 3000 hairs a month

so of course it looks like a lot when you remove them all at once

unless you can actually see visible thinning of your own hair

dont worry
