i've noticed today that at the front of my hair right on top i have these short little hairs sticking straight up...it looks just like i cut them almost to the scalp. Are they nerw hairs?  broken hairs?  what are they...they're driving me nuts  i tried to get them to lay down but NO  they're not going to

Are the hairs fine like baby hairs?  Or are they more like the rest of your hair, only short?  Look closely at the tips of the hairs, do they look blunt like they've been cut?  Are they split?  Or do they kind of taper?
 
If they're blunt or split, they're likely broken off.  If they're fine and tapering, they're likely new hairs.

they're not really blunt but it's hard to tell  they're mostly the gray ones too  not sure how they would have gotten broken right there but who knows  thanks for replyinh

Over-all harsh treatment will cause breakage like that.... such as combing/brushing too hard, pulling your hair back in the same way often, pulling it back too tight, etc.  Have you been shedding more than usual lately?  I always noticed a ton of new growth after shedding alot.

If they're gray, that would explain why you can't get them to lay down.  Gray hairs are usually more coarse or stiff.  I have the same problem.  It gets annoying, but there's really not much you can do but wait for them to grow longer.

i pulled a couple out today and they're very fine and a lot thinner on the end than at the root  sure will be glad when they get longer so i don't look like i've spiked a few hairsUnhappy
